Just wondering whether people feel it is acceptable…
In order to get more working class people into universities grade offers are lowered for them…
This pisses me right off…cos im working class and i went college and i came out with AAB…but we have some girl who lives in a ghetto in Luton who got BBC and got into my uni…the grades required for my course were BBB…but i know people who got that who didnt get in…now the way they assess it is we need working class people so we lower the grades…what they dont understand is a girl that struggles to get a B at A level is going to struggle to do well at uni…she may be intelligent but uni has nothing to do with that…unis about being able to write essays thats it and getting a B at A level isnt good enough…fact is now shes struggling and its the Unis fault they should never have let her in…
This is a personal qualm…to be honest on a personal note i cant moan cos the system would benefit me…thing is i worked hard and id like to be judged on my grades not cos im from a **** area and they need to meet a quota…I accept that you have to work harder…i did…i dont believe equality of opportunity is fiulfilled by allowing people who dont get grades into universities…it just hides the fact that schools arent good enough to get working class people A’s…if was a rich guy id be pissed if got turned down getting ABB and some girl got BBC cos shes a jamaican girl from a bad area…
Quotas generally look like ridiculous things cos things arent judged oin merit…things like getting more Asians and Blacks into the police force…how pissed would you be if you were the white guy who is better at that job…
And as a side issue even the South African cricket bull**** when it happened…
Fact is what quota systems do is they mask the fact that diosadvnataged people are disadvantaged so rather than giving them the mean they need to succeed they just make entry easier…but fact is how many of these people end up succeeding…
Lol what ever happened to that black wicketkepper for South Africa…he didnt make the cut eventually cos he wasnt good enough…Ntin i made the cut cos he had quality not cos he was black…
And as for the girl at my uni…we’ll see if she comes back next year…
