Quota system

Lets not forget our history that Division of Sindh is not a new demand. It started in early 1950s , even when there was no quota system like today. Go through the history and see how many Sindhis were included in first cabinet of Pakistan when Karachi was made Federal Capital. Name the representatives from Sindh in Federal Cabinet prior to Bhutto.

Re: Division of Sind : New provinces

Correction , the First Quota System was imposed in Sep 48 , ammended in Nov 48 , and it was upto Dec 72 .

these are the FACTS few knows , and those who do , conveniently forget to even mention ..... period.

Quota system

It seems as if its a topic of interest for many posters of the forum, please feel free to discuss here but try to keep the tempers down. :)

Re: Quota system

If I'm not wrong, Liaquat Ali Khan had first intoduced quota system in Sindh right?

Re: Quota system

Already discussed in these forums …

My Post is post # 26 in that discussion , if you want I can copy paste the content .

Re: Division of Sind : New provinces

Afat I agree to your facts and the motive behind convenience for not mentioning it. The infamous holy cows concept :)

I posted the first post in a thread, where Division of Sindh was being justified for quota system and I posted it to raise a question, is quota system the only reason for justifying such demand? If that is the case, why a demand for separate province was made in early 50's when the quota system was not prevalent it its current form.

Re: Quota system

My friend there is a thing called Victor Mentality , that was prevalent at those times , few would recall how Sindh University one of the oldest was thrown out from Karachi into the wilderness of then Jamshoro , and on Mr Khooro's objection was famously told , we do not want to learn " gadha gari wala culture "

...and its ironic , the same Jamshore University later had a medical college , and the first ever bloody clash between the two communities took place there ... Ironic isn't it...

by the way , Sindh University was thrown out to make way for Karachi University , and today its an ugly fact , that students from outside Karachi even if they are Sindhi can not take admission in KU along with many Univesities and educational insititues of Karachi ...... Period.

Re: Quota system

I personally believe that quota system should not be there, but then the jobs might become even more imbalanced and tilted towards the educated/developed cities and others might lose out even more. What is the current quotas for open merit, and the provinces?

Re: Quota system

Ali Syed thats another Issue , on the merits and demerits of what we call Affirmative action polcies aka quota .

Re: Quota system

Says who? I graduated from an institution in Karachi where 7 out of 40 students in my class were from Karachi and rest were from all over Pakistan (including parts of Sindh - out of Karachi).

Re: Quota system

MPAs want KU campuses in Naushero Feroze, Tharparkar – The Express Tribune

“PPP’s Humera Alwani said that no member was trying to create a controversy. Admissions were, however, denied to Sindhi students because of KU’s policy that gives admission to students who either belong to Karachi or had their earlier education here.”

Though admittedly there are a lot of claims, counter claims, disputes and allegations in this article…

Re: Quota system

in another article they say they have a seperate quota for them

““A large number of students who apply for admission from rural Sindh are accommodated and only a few are rejected.” KU had a separate quota for them, according to which nearly 60 students were enrolled every year”

“said KU’s admissions director Prof. Dr Khalid Iraqi,”

KU claims it gives preference to students from rural Sindh – The Express Tribune

Re: Quota system

Thanks Afat for providing the historical facts. Some people think that quota system was evil created by Bhutto and before him, Liaqat Ali Khan’s quota system was only for two years. It is a shame that truth have never been recoded in the history of Pakistan. Supporter of one fascist organization calling Sindhis as parasites, retarded, incompetent surviving only on quota system. They are either ignorant of the facts, poisoned by their parents and peers or having pure racist Victor Mentality as you have pointed out.

You are right that Karachi university never existed even before partition. All educational institutions including NED Engineering College was affiliated with one of the best university of India, Bombay University. After partition, Sindh University was created in Karachi but racists and ethnic cleaners moved it to Jamshoro. I wonder how Punjab would have reacted had Punjab University moved to Muridke or Kanakacha creating Lahore University just to accommodate promised people who came to the land where honey and milk were flowing. I know none of those racists will visit this thread after reading the facts.

Today affirmative programs also exist in civilized world. Please allow me to post relevant posts from thread you have mentioned.
