Average period btwn the on/off times, about 2-3 months…but had only been doing it for about 2-3 years before trying to quit in college…after starting n stopping a couple of times, quit cold turkey…never went back to it, no cravings wotsoever and no desire to anymore…just had a lot of stress in my life back then but now i’ve found other ways of coping, so i’m much more happy and healthy
These are the psychological techniques to cope with this problem..... i read them when i was a psychology student....
Whenever you feel like somking...start thinking about nasty things that you can even imagine putting in your mouth.......and chewing gum is another technique ........or start thinking about diseases .....that this cigrattee is your lastone and after this you ll get infected from cancer(tobah astaghfar)
^ That's true also...and was actually wot made me want to stop in the first place...the thought of having a tube in my throat and cancer in my lungs and how if i died, how much pain ppl who loved me wud be in...was also how i got my fiance to stop too...made him feel bad for putting his life at risk and that it wudn't be fair down the road when we had kids...so he finally quit cold turkey after smoking for like 8-9 yrs and 2 yrs later, so far so good and he knows life is too precious and we aren't going back to those filthy fags again!
After losing an uncle to lung cancer cuz of his smoking habits, this was the nicest thing i could say. My cousins will never have a dad, my aunt will never have her husband, my dad lost his brother. He changed everyones life just because the addiction was more imp to him than his family.
I guess thats how it works, all these ppl love cigs more than they love their families and maybe thats why they havent been able to quit.
roman for me it was the groupn I hung out with motly, they got me into smoking again cuz they all smoked so i took one ciggy then another and in a few months iw as smoking.. but when i quit cold turkey they started quitting and of that whole gang only one guy is still a smoker.
True some ppl can smoke their whole lives (40-50yrs) and have no health problems…other’s can smoke ten years and have problems…but this is not about judging at all…this is about health…and it’s proven, that breathing in smoke with all those deadly chemicals is so damaging to ur health…so ppl shud avoid it, and if they have started try to quit…cos u mite not know if ur in the category of smoking for yrs and nothing happening to u, or smoking and then getting some disease/death…until it’s too late.
Smokers know that their loved ones are hurting cos they r not taking care of their health and if they refuse to listen to them and watch them, look at u killing urself slowly now that is stupid…smokers who don’t even try to quit after their families have begged them, yea i believe they just don’t care about their families…they shud all try to help the smoker to get over this habit…i mean a teen smoking cos he wants to be “cool” is one thing, and an older man with 3 or 4 kids who depend on him to live is another…smoking, when knowing there is a good chance to get cancer is just like diabetics who won’t stop eating sweets…if u can’t make the effort to help urself and the people u love, then that’s just selfish.
thats just too simple a view on things im sorry but its just not the case....my dad smokes doesnt mean he doesnt give a **** about us....thats just too simple and only someone who has never smoked and lives in a really oh so black and white world would even suggest such a thing...there are health related risks involved...but hello my dad drives every time he gets in the car he could (allah na karay) but he could have an accident so does that make him stupid because he got in the car knowing full well he COULD have an accident? his job as an electrical engineer means that when he's working he could quite possible get seriously hurt...so should he stop working???? no i think not....people with diabetes if they keep it under control can eat sweets, but do YOU have any idea how hard it is sometimes to not eat something sweet due to ur health reasons but because u simply just want to.
At the end of the day yeh smoking isnt great for ur health but its stigmatized just because one smokes doesnt mean that one is going to drop dead.
driving and working are NEEDS. Some risks cant be avoided, some can. If you KNOW smoking is bad which it is, its like slowly poisining yourself then you dont care about your self or others who care about you.
ok hiccup yea i am gonna slowly poison myself to death and I refuse to do anything about it but yeah i care about poeple who love me
Health Effects of Smoking
About half of all Americans who continue to smoke will die because of the habit. Each year, a staggering 435,000 people die in the US from tobacco use. Nearly 1 of every 5 deaths is related to smoking. **Cigarettes kill more Americans than alcohol, car accidents, suicide, AIDS, homicide, and illegal drugs combined. **
From what I can recall, there are three broad categories related to smoking. The ones who cannot even handle a cigarette. They would get sick if they'd to smoke. Second, the chippers. Chippers are the ones who can hanld some quantity of nicotine on daily/weekly basis. They can go without having a cigarette for days and may smoke moderately or less (4-5 cig) per day. Third are heavy duty ones. The ones who smoke a pack or two a day.
These categories are basically based on how our brain processes/handles nicotine. Genetics also play a big role. The non-smokers' brain simply can't process nicotine that's why they get sick when they smoke.
Nicotine produces dopamine and another chemical that I don't remember the name of. Smoking is sticky because of producing these chemicals which induce "happiness" or "joyous" feelings.
Obviously even if you are smoke prone genetically, you still can be saved if it's discouraged growing up or your friends etc are not smokers. Truly unlucky are those who smoke because of genetics + social circumstances. Lucky are the ones whose brain can't hanlde nicotine.
Once you're addicted, the biggest hurdle in quitting besides the cravings/dependency are company you keep + boredom or lonliness. So quitting is pretty much a well planned lifestyle change for those who are heavy smokers.
I said wot i did because i was a smoker myself (as i said in an earlier post) and i also have an uncle who smoked for about 45 yrs, didn’t have major problems, thank God…but he did see his family was worried sick about him…as soon as he became a grandfather, he quit cold turkey…i’m sure it was very difficult for him, but his love for his grandkids was greater and finally realised he didn’t want to put his health in obvious danger…u can’t compare smoking’s health risks to driving to work or work hazards! Smoking is something u choose to do…u HAVE to drive and work, in order to live…whereas, smoking gives more chances for u not to live…and yes, i do know how hard it is for ppl (like diabetics) to love sweet things but not be allowed to have so much…the key for them is moderation…but with smoking, it’s so bad for ur health, whether u have one or 100 in a day…there is no moderation with it…my point is, if u know all the facts…y risk it? I’ve been there, urghh it’s not something i wana even think about now…but no regrets, i’m proud that i gave it up before it was too late.
