- The swalah (spelling?)- I understand it should be a youngest male from the grooms side, however how old is the usual one? Should it be from mothers side of famiy or grooms side? Just wondering here!!2. The bharat outfit - there’s a bit of a disagreement here.. Should the groom buy his own or does the bride buy the grooms? What’s the norm!?Thanks
Re: Questions
I'm not sure I know this tradition.
The who gets what depends on which part of Pakistan your families are from, usually. My understanding is that in the Karachi/Sindh area the barat and valima joras for the bride come from the groom's side and the barat and valima joras for the groom come from the bride's side. In Lahore/Punjab I think it is that the bride's side gets the clothes for the barat for both the bride and groom, and the groom's side gets the clothes for the valima for both the bride and groom. These days tho, people often shop together or let each person get their own clothes for each event. Who is getting the bride's clothes?
Re: Questions
I think you mean sarballah, hes the youngest male relative on the grooms side. where I'm from bride gets her own clothes for the baraat.
