Questions..

First of all… LOL at some of the threads here and even more LOL at some of the posters.

Now.. I have a few questions. Lunatics who have nothing better to do except create and enjoy internet fights may back off plz. Or I will kick ur butt so hard you’ll never be able to go potty again.

1: Read or Recite??? I don’t get it when my lil sister reads the Quran in her head… I don’t get that feeling of satisfaction unless I recite the Quran slowly, in a very low voice. Is the sawaab still the same??

2: Reciting Electronic Quran: Is it the same as reciting a “real” Quran i.e. holding the actual book in your hands? When I am in a state of wudu, and if I have some free time, I tend to pull up the Quran on my laptop and recite a few surahs. Is this ok?

3: Having a digital Quran. I bought one on my flight to Pakistan. It has tonnes of translations, all hadith books, various tafseers, prayer times, kaaba direction, azaan, etc etc etc. I usually keep it up high in my cupboard. Should I handle it just like I would handle a “real” Quran i.e. with wudu at all times??

Thats it for now. I would really appreciate if u guys could plz answer the questions and let’s keep it all decent plz.

:rotfl: My warning really scared people off, didn’t it! Not even a single reply, even though I was thinking the questions might be very simple! =D

i do the same...let see what people sa about this...

Replying while "trembling with fear". Afterall I have to go do that messy but important job. Not right away but sometimes in the next 24 hours.

So Jaan ki amaan payoon to urz karoon! :)

  1. Neither. You don't need to "read" or "recite". Instead you need to "understand" it to the best of your abilities.

There are too many readers and reciters. Look at the ARabic speaking countries. So many haffaz and qaris and other readers,

But very very very few out there ever try to "understand" the true meaning of our beautiful book. Instead they go and gulp down a tafsir from some 2-penny Maulana.

So the bottom line is try to "understand" Quran as much as you can. Doesn't matter if you read or recite.

Respecting the BOOKS meaning all the books including books of other madhabs and even your text books is the key here.

Being clean (wudu or shower) will definitely help you learn from and understand a book and that's the essence of respecting "knowledge" and understanding.

And if you use the criteria "being clean is good for learning", then you could see that books either in paper form or in digital form deserve the same respect.

Keeping the keyboard of your computer (and your computer in general) will definitely keep you healthy.

Remember! Cleanliness is half of our iman.

Re: Questions..

LOL at burqa's jaan ki amaan paon stuff :D

Anyways, here's what I think about this stuff-

  1. Reciting in a low/hushed voice is better than "reading" in your head, atleast for women. Also, when I do it just in my head, I feel that I don't pronounce them right or go too fast or can't concentrate on what I'm saying. Even when praying, recite so you can hear yourself but not so loud that the people next to you get disturbed and can't concentrate on their prayer. Understanding it, as burqa said, is obviously better and would earn more sawaab- but you'd get the sawaab for recitation as well.

  2. I do that as well, mainly because I like to travel light and don't want to take my Quran with me everywhere. I think it's fine. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

  3. I'm not sure, I would handle it with wudu unless I can confirm that its okay otherwise.

  1. In salaat? If in salaat, according to Hanafi madhab, the prayer is invalid if ayats are not uttered (ie lips moved) it’s best to recite loud enough that you can hear yourself.

2,3. Yes, you must have wudhu before touching the screen. The words of Allah are on the screen, just the way the words of Allah are on a piece of paper.

Having wudhu is not a must when reciting the Quran outside prayer. But it’s best to have wudhu. Shows a sign of respect to our Creator.

for #1:

Thanks everyone for ur replies. And don’t worry burqa, u’ve been a good boy on this thread so you will still be able to go potty :k:

Two questions of mine are still kinda not answered:

How do I handle a digital Quran? Its just like an Ipod but its contents are much more precious.

If we get 10 sawaab for reciting one letter of the Quran, is the sawaab still the same if we read it in our heads?

Digital Quran is a bidaat, innovation of non believer so do not buy it. Just kidding.
You can respect Quran as Burga said above by reading and understanding and the respect will come from heart but whatever you are doing to handle a digital Quran is fine.
I have one in digital format , one in my ipod , many on CD’s and I pay the utmost respect when I handle them.

Jazakallah

Re: Questions..

  1. Reciting has more sawab cause it means that you hifz(ed) the quran that has extra blessings.

  2. Reading Electronic Quran is same.

  3. Printed book has different protocols. Digital media does not convert into readable material till you turn it on. Its sits in 0 and 1 format in the memory of that gadget which is not Quran, nevertheless you should handle that with respect too.
