Questions

I heard a lecture by Dr.Zakir Naik in Ramadan in which he said that the sawab of reading the translation of the quran or the ayahs is just as much as it is of reading the arabic text but he also mentioned that just because of this reason one should not only read the translation but since it is also important to know the meaning of the quran and ayahs thats why its equally important to balance it out. how many agree/disagree - says its right or not?
And another question is that there are a lot of mothers i know who buy audio cds of the quran for their babies so that they can listen to those and learn the quran, so i was wondering is listening to the quran equally important as reading it? what i mean is that can a person listen to the quran and not read it (not always but at times or if he/she doesn’t know how to read the quran)? does listening to the quran earn just as much sawab as reading it does? please help..

Re: Questions

The purpose of Nazool-e-Quran was not just reading or listeing, it was and is a practical book, infact a manual by for humal life, so one have to understand what (s)he is reading. I think in this context dr, Zakir Naik was right in his approach.

I personnally like to listen audio/video quran, as then i can take inputs from my eyes and ears, so that makes it more clear to me. as far as babies is concerned i don't know much about that.

Re: Questions

^ Thankyou - even i prefer listening to the quran because that way i feel i can have a better understanding on how to pronounce words etc..but someone told me that its not right since when you read its yourself who is doing it and you get the sawab and if you listen to someone else reading it then its them who get the sawab while for us its just like not reading it at all...but for babies i am not sure either but i at times do think that learning from the audio/ video is just like getting taught by a teacher isnt it..?

Re: Questions

^^ yes u r rite
To me audio/video give me exposure to more, teachers of Quran and relevant Sciences, and u said it corrects the pronounciation of the certain words. reading to quran and listening witht he intentions to understand is of equal status, cause in both ways one is conveying the message to brain ( the main processing unit of the information) the tool could be eyes, or ears it really does not matter.

Re: Questions

For those of us who do not understand Arabic, it is important to read the translation as well. Read it as much as possible so that you get a more clear picture.

About your second question, that depends on person but you cannot abandon reading it completely. Otherwise, you would think you know how to recite the Quran properly because you had listened to certain reciatation on Audio/Video for a long time but it is not the same, until you practice. Hence, listening to Audio or watching a Video is fine if done at times but you should also put what you learn into practice and improve your recitation.
