Questions to overseas Pakistanies

  1. Do you get any negative vibes from you co-workers ?
  2. Do you feel that they are tolerating or ignoring you ?
  3. Do they know you are from Pakistan ? Does it matter to them in any negative way ?
  4. Do you have any story to share about any hate related incident to you on a personal level ?

Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

I haven't had any hate at the workplace, except once about 2 1/2 years ago, and it was subtle but obvious by a really ignorant stupid guy.....that was just ignorant to anything and everything...so couldn't let it stress me. Otherwise no, no problems at all. They all know I am muslim & pakistani and as a matter of fact love what they know about the culture. They love shalwar kameez outfits...kameez tops..like tunics...all the ladies love them...the food, i am always requested to bring some paki food/sweet or the other. Its fun to learn from each other about each other. Granted not everyone knew much about pakistani folks, but you show them and people are curious to learn.

Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

As for the "Do you feel that they are tolerating or ignoring you ?"...well that could be with anyone, even your own Pakistani or any desi co-workers. It all depends on the individuals & personality.

Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

  • no.

  • neither -- they are friendly and genuine companions and colleagues.

  • yes. only when something happens in the news and they want to know if my family and friends are ok.

  • nope, because there aren't any.

  • Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

I had faced problems once at work because someone had a problem with me being Muslim. This Jewish girl who grew up in Israel was blatantly rude towards me since the first day of my work at this bank. On a regular basis, she kept acting like a major b**** to me, throwing out derogatory comments such as Arabs are so dirty, I should know, I lived in Israel blah blah blah and my a** of a boss didn't wanna do anything about it. So I called our VP who came down to talk to her and put her on probation saying that if this didn't change, she would get fired. Well, it just made it worse and finally I just felt like it was better for me to leave. I didn't need this job that badly that I would deal with such nonsense. It was becoming way too stressful for me to come back home every night feeling upset about the things she was doing and saying.

    Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

Wow amazing real life story. But why did you not talk to that VP again , he was dealing with it in the right manner. Oh but you did not need that job so badly that you would fight for it. May be if I was in your situation I would behave in the same manner you did.

    Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

    1. no. ALHUMDULLAH
    2. no
    3. yes, but they dont believe me. not in negative way, but in positive way because they want to discuss Pakistan’s politics.
    4. ALHUMDULLAH i never faced any discrimination. In fact i heard about some racist teachers from my other Pakistani friends, but for some weird reason those teacher gave me load of respect ALHUMDULLAH. as they confuse me with me sister and say hi to her, but using my name  (and my sister was like i dont even know who she was :cb:)

i am not saying where i live is Utopian world, but we should also build some tolerance and we give room to others to live as well. no one is bad, it is just at particular time frame we do something, that we never meant to do.

    Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

Dude...you should've made her pay for it, why should YOU have to quit, let her get fired or humiliated or something.

    Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

    she is not a dude

    Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

you should have recorded those things on your cell phone because such kind of people can do worse than this, and then hire a jewish lawyer and let the jewish judge do the justice.

    Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

    never.

    never.

yes they obviously know I am of pakistani descent and it does not matter to them. most people are tolerant.

black people have often expressed racist attitudes. then again, american black folks are one of the most racist people on earth and will be racist/prejudice against anyone that isn't black. maybe these are the attitudes that still hold them back in society. but thats another issue.

    Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

That's really bad!! Thing is though even if u complained again i dont think it wud chnge anything she would continue the way she was with you and say all that rubbish. There's only so many times u can complain i guess. Its a shame u had to leave, but ure ryt u don't have to put up with all her rubbish. I just wish ppl would grow up and stop feeling the need to subject ppl 2 this kind of bullying .

    Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

Honestly, one of the main reasons I left was ALSO because I felt that the people at work were using me to get her in trouble. She was a very, very rude person with no respect for anyone whatsoever. Our boss was actually scared of her- can you believe it. When the Jewish girl wouldn't be around, the boss would ***** about her constantly and to her face, she acted like a major hypocrite. Not just her, the rest of the women who worked hated her but acted like they were her best friends when she was around. Noone had the guts to say anything. I had never worked in that kind of environment before so it just bothered me too much. I tolerated this girl's bs for the longest time. Finally, her Arab comment was more than I could put up with. When I called our VP and the human resources department, everyone at work jumped up at the opportunity to show like they were all supportive and what not. When in reality, they were just happy that she would be fired at my expense. The VP came, did what he needed to do and her attitude just got worse. She stopped making the obscene comments but started having this MAJOR cold attitude with me. I had enough of it too so I just acted like she didn't exist. However, it would just be very bad when I had to work on shifts alone with her. I felt like our clients could sense it also and I just didn't want to deal with it anymore. The boss and a couple of other girls there would try to provoke me to file more complaints about her and what not but I knew what they really wanted. I also felt kind of bad later since this girl has a very young daughter and maybe she did need this job. I didn't want to be the reason for someone else suffering financially. Anyway so it all summed up and it was best for me to leave. And I am glad I did because Alhumdulillah I landed with an amazing job right after. I heard a few weeks later that the girl got fired for not showing up on time and calling out constantly so whatever. Allah swt does everything for a reason.

    Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

Haan.... true dat. chalo its good it all worked out... but seriously, someone who has no respect for anyone, its only their fault that someone else would suffer bc of their attitude...not yours...

    Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

I am just waiting for the Jew lovers on GS to call shay an "anti-Semite".

    Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

I carry myself with confidence and pretty confident in my work place, It always helps...

I have not suffered from any bad vibes, problems etc... Everyone seems to be pretty good.....

    Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

I'm a gori so I answer not for myself but for my desi hubby. He has always been treated with the utmost respect since he is a very hard worker and very dedicated to quality work. He had a problem with one guy a couple of years ago, actually the guy he reported to. The guy was a real turd and made more than a few really nasty comments - a couple of them related to my hubby's ethnicity and a couple related to his small stature. When hubby had enough, he went to Human Resources and explained the situation with the hope of getting re-assigned to a different group. Didnt happen. Instead they fired the jerk. Very quickly too.

    Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

    Cool :biggthumb

    Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

Hm, an anti-semite? It's actually the other way around- I had an issue with ONE person, not because she is Jew but because of her attitude and insulting comments. HER issues with me were based on religion.

What's amazing is that all my Jew friends said what a shame it was to see her acting like a b****.

    Re: Questions to overseas Pakistanies

So you're a jew hater eh?
