Questions for working mamas

Hello ladies,
I am newly wed and newly pregnant…just started my 18th week. I work full time and was thinking once I have the baby, do I need to stop working or do I have any other option? I have 8-5 job but my work is all computer based so there is a possibility that I’ll work from home afterwards. Do you think I can manage working 8-5 without much distraction from a newborn or will I need help? I have not seen many babies in my life and I’ve no clue how much time it would take to take-care of them. I will have 3 months maternity leave but after that is it manageable to work FT with a newborn baby with no help? Daycare is not an option in our family.
What did you all do?

Welcome to the forum.

What is the nature of your job?
Are you on the phone a lot?
Are you dependent on colleagues or can you work at your own pace?

Re: Questions for working mamas

first of all congrats.

Working from home is an excellent option - many companies are more than willing to do that. I worked from home on and off since my kids were born and it's a life saver for new moms. (who has time to comb your hair when you have been up all night with the baby).

However you cannot do both at the same time (take care of baby and work 9-5). You need to hire some help for those hours or have some help from relatives during that time.

Also I would suggest to go into the office physically even for one day a week to

  1. Keep yourself sane and
  2. To keep up with your relationships in the office
  3. Make sure you are not a part of "out of sight, out of mind" office games/politics.

Stop working, ghar main baitho, miyan aur saas kee khidmat karo aur bachchay paalo.

bas, keh diya.

Re: Questions for working mamas

good that you can work from home but like njgal said you wont be able to do both at the sametime!

Actually it may be easier with a newborn when they sleep most of the time (in first 3-4 months) but later it will be tough.. when they start crawling around etc etc, you cant do anything with them being awake!
