Those marriage vows are funny - it basically says "these guys were sleeping around for some time but now they want to tell everyone that they will continue doing that and the agree to be bound by fidelity ... " that means before these vows - atheists should have no problem in not being in a state of fidelity ... because why should anyone who has not made a promise to the other person by contract or otherwise that they will remain "steady" or "faithful" until that point in marriage? It is a bit confusing ...

^ Sounds to me that the obligation of marriage ceremony or ‘contract’ is probably required to secure the health benefits for the spouse.

some of them do believe in spirituality, don't know what sort of spirituality but they do believe in it.

Yes I know ... atheists can vary from scientific evolutionary atheists to spiritual fairy in trees everything is connected atheists ... they both don't believe in God but one end of the spectrum dismisses anything fantastical and the other embraces it full on - modern pagans...

I couldn’t care less but obviously had to listen to the family. Nikkah/wedding didn’t mean anything to me.

2. When you lose a love one, do you go through Muslim funeral protocols (ghusl, kafan, namaz–e-janaza, burial in Muslim graveyard)?

No…I just pay my respects. My mom nudges me and pokes me until I pick up a Para and pretend to read it. I don’t want to make myself stand out.

3. Do you eat pork or avoid it to your best ability?

I avoid meat altogether, pork to door ki baat hai. I have tried it, didn’t like it. Besides, my husband wouldn’t touch me if I ate pork.

I think most of the Desi atheist would say yes to the above (if they chose to answer honestly). My point is, all Desi atheist are Muslims trapped in atheist bodies ..

Samething happened to my friend in College. He ended up taking some Liberal Arts classes and denounced religion all together. When i asked him the analogy of the simple hand watch coming in to existence all on its own, he was speechless. I think most of the atheists choose to do so because they hardly know more than 5 scientific facts contradicting religion and that too is some Christian Dogma. They try to distinguish themselves away from the Sunday going football loving Christians and try to be this new hip vegetable eating crowd. Little do they know that they have taken themselves away from 1 group of people only to join another. Muslims athiests are in the same ball park. They get on the Mullah bandwagon and try to dissociate themselves from anything Islam. Just as theorist said that she only pretends to read the Quran. Only if she tried to understand its meaning. :)

^ "vegetable eating crowd" - not necessarily a bad idea. More environmentally friendly (consumes far less resources than meat)

Athiests, IMO, are those that have sufficient inner strength to guide themselves - so they do not need external support system.

It is OK to have one's own belief system, as long as it is not imposed on anyone else by force.
