question

OK this is a very embarassing and silly question, I have a friend (Not close) who has just converted to islam. And he is doing a quite a good job, he tries to pray 5 times a day, reads Quran in English, doesn’t eat haram meat etc.. but all this time he is doing one thing wrong.
He doesn’t wipe his but the “muslim way” by using Lota and etc, rather he is still uses toilet paper.
Now I have told him all the dos and dont’s except for this issue and I hesitate to bring it up.
So is there a good way I can explain to him, maybe show him some quranice verses which states the exact topic.

why dont u get a book on Islam and give it to him as a present? i mean one in english which does discuss all these issues.. i know in the saturday school here they have a text book which talks about all the different things..

maybe u could start a topic on hygene and mention how in Islam we use water to clean ourselves... that should kinda get the point across...

invite him to your house. feed him err lots of good food. make him stay the whoe day. sooner or later, he will need to go to the bathroom. hide any paper that you have in the bathroom.

now three things can happen. either he will get the idea and use the water from a lota, or he'll ask you for some toilet paper, and then you can tell him that it is not the islamic way, or thirdly, he will end up using your towel to clean his U know what.

Is the lota used by Muslims outside of the sub-continent?

I had a Somali friend at the Islamic society at my university, from a family that has been Muslim for many hundreds of years, if not over 1000 years, and he was utterly perplexed by the fact that Pakistanis use water to clean themselves after going to the toilet.

Though admittedly the issue discussed was cleaning up after urinating rather than defecating.

umair, give him a hand...(no pun intended)...

you dont have to think much deep about a way to make him understand how important cleaning properly is for muslims. just talk to him about purification, "ghusl" and "wudhu" and when it's all necessary, how it's done and why it's done. tell him the hygeinic and scientific stuff. get him a book on the topic.
and if he doesnt understand tell him all his prayers etc are going to waste cause if he never cleans hi ass, he's always impure and all his paryers are done without wudhu which would mean they are invalid.

(But regarding the accpetance of prayer: it's only Allah who accepts or rejects and no man can say when one's prayers are ok or not so i'm no one to issue a fatwa regarding one's prayers, but what i've said is according to the teachings regarding "At-tahaara" which in arabic means purification i think. )
good luck!

^ i think prayers being accepted or not is all dependant on ur Iman.. sometimes ur in place where there is no water facility.. so u do masa... and Allah Mian accepts that... nahin?

i know thats happened to us on numerous occasion when we're on road.. and need to pray.. we just do masa and offer our prayers..

i think some things are also culture based.. as Mad_Science said that his somali friend didnt ever use water to cleanse himself in that region...

neways i may be totally wrong...

honestly give the guy a book.. and start a conversation on hygene..

yeah Sadzz you're right, the religion is very lenient regarding most matters and things do depend on our imaan and "niyat" we are allowed to do the "tayyamum" when there's no water, to purify ourselves for prayer. but that's allowed only when there's no water at all. when there is water around, 'tayyamum' is not acceptable.

:hehe: great advice

Umair, what about bricks ;)

Bricks is an alternative to paper towels and lotas  The dehati method…

^no wonder dehatis are so uptight and grumpy

:hehe: :hehe:
