I put up a link to an external website here under the heading - Movies on Pakistan etc. I cannot find that thread anymore.
Can someone shed some light on this mystery.

advertising is not allowed i think that is stated pretty clearly in the registration rules of the website.
This aint a freebie joint to get publicity for private websites ;)

There are no bandwidth issues. No incremental cost. No dis-advantage. True the forums should be discriminating in what they allow, but to remove a link to a website that itself is educational in purpose, with no advertising, no commercial interests, and that also a website that has content on Pakistani History, it is a shame that this forum would not allow for such a link to be put in this forum.
A collective forum as such that has a large community of Pakistanis visiting it, is an ideal places to provide them info on other interesting sites to visit.
It is quite pathetic if that is the case. Anyways this is my view, and if this is against the policy then the webmasters should remove this thread, and I apologize for causing any grievances.

I suppose u had read the rules about posting links here when u signed up for membership. If i remember correctly its fairly simple. if there is something which could be of benefit and should be linked the approach would have been to get approval from the mgmt of the place ..before posting the link.
I would suggest contacting the admins to get your link included in the countless links that pak.org currently offers its visitors.

I read the forum rules and there was no mentions on this rule. So must be another set of rules somewhere else.
On another note the rule is somewhat backwards. Usually forum admins have bandwidth considerations. They don’t want unnecessary pictures to be uploaded and displayed. However outbound links are never an issue, so that is why I found it a bit strange. I guess the logic is that they can be used for advertisement, and true that can be an issue. But enforcing such a rule without having some relevant discretion is tad harsh.
There can be many valuable links to provide to our members, and this rule would preclude us from doing so.
And bfore I forget these were the FORUM rules for the General Section I read before making my post.

The rules Fraudz is referring to are not specific to General forum. They are the rules of membership for GUPSHUP forum, and you have to agree to those if you decided to become a member here. There have been tons of people who have tried to advertise everything from multi level marketing to personal businesses here. This is not a place for that. and you yourself admit that it can be an issue.

agreed, and the discussion is best done BEFORE posting the link. If it is removed the best approach is to send a PM to the mod and discuss

ppl post links all the time to news sources, companies, career and education links etc etc. e.g. your link for some start-up company in Pakistan is still listed on the careers and academics forum

they are rules specific to that forum, the overall bulletin board rules still apply. Those are the ones you clicked the “I agree” button to when u signed up. I suggest you go refresh your memory.

I cannot plead ignorance but in all honesty I did not read the rules before joining. Rules are rules and henceforth I will follow. Usually when I come across disclaimers I just accept and move on.
Anyways now that I know that all links must first be sanctioned by an ADMIN I will make certain I do so.
In addition is there a page with the list of all ADMINS.
