Is commiting suicide haraam?
Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
"And do not kill yourselves. Surely, Allaah is Most merciful to you. And whoever commits that through aggression and injustice, We shall cast him into the Fireā¦" [al-Nisa' 4:29-30]
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
"Whoever throws himself down from a mountain and kills himself, he will be in the Fire of Hell throwing himself down for ever and ever. Whoever drinks poison and kills himself will have the poison in his hand, drinking it in the Fire of Hell for ever and ever. Whoever kills himself with a piece of iron [a weapon] will have that piece of iron in his hand, stabbing himself in the stomach with it in the Fire of Hell forever and ever." (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5778).
Allah (SWT) does not task a soul with more than what it can bear...And that's a promise...For some, breaking a nail can be torture while for some, torture and interrogation in Guantanamo Bay can be salvation...You have to see how much you can bear and see what you are made of...
yeh it is ....
thanks
Not only is it Haraam it is a Gunah-e-Kabiraa...An unforgivable sin second only to shirk...There is no forgiveness and no respite for someone who commits it...
Lajawab, do you have evidence of that?
I have counter evidence from the Qur'an that Shirk stands alone in being the only unforgiven sin.
It will be darned hard to seek forgiveness after one has successfully committed suicide. Or one would think. ![]()

I've learned from a scholar that Suicide is a Sin. And every sin is forgivable because God is the most merciful. The unfortunate part of sucide is that a person can't repent from that sin. If a person is in extra-ordinary circumstances that is unbearable to him/her, I think God's limitless mercy will forgive him. Allah is the only one to decide. However, Shirk (ascribing partner) is not forgivable to a person who already is Muslim or who died in the disbelief. If some one was Mushriq and becomes Muslim, all his/her previous sins are forgiven including his shirk.
Subha'an Allah
what is shirk?

Associating anything with Allah (SWT), asking for help from someone other than Allah (SWT), Worshipping anything other than Allah (SWT)...Allah (SWT) has pride and only He has the right to pride...You associate anything with His Majesty and you will not be forgiven ...There is no forgiveness for shirk...Except of course asking for forgiveness and refraining from it in which case you will be forgiven...You are judged by what your heart conceals...
thanks .... :)
taqlee.. dont even think about it :nono:
Dear brother Taqlee, never even think about suicide!
If you have any problems, just trust Allah and Tawakul on Him. He will put all things straight. If you are in any problem, ask Allah with sincerity to show you the right path and give you sabr and determination. Ameen!
Life is too precious to be lost.
"tund e a bad e mukhalif sey na ghabra aye uqaab
Yeh to chalti hai tujhey ooncha uranay keh liye" (Iqbal)
thanks for your concern laeeqkhan and bored in brisbane .. :)
If you want to change your life.
Or the lives of your brothers and sisters.
Suicide isn't the way to do it.
A person shows/ proves what kind of person they are by the company they keep.
Suicide is always sad and heart breaking.
It's not something that will ever change a government, or prove a point. It's just always a loss of someone who could have made a difference. Its a loss of someone who's heart broke and couldn't find a better way. I'm sorry for them that lose heart that way.
I find it a waste of life.
A loss of something that could have been grand.
thanks for your input AAG ...... :)
