Question..

I managed to spill a big blob of candle wax on one of my favourite grey sweaters. How do I get it out? It won’t wash out. My brilliant mind thought about putting it over a flame and see if it melts out, but my brilliant self will probably set it on fire that way.

Any other not so brilliant ideas?

my sweater :frowning:

How about using a warm iron? I wouldn't use the warm iron directly on the sweater but maybe use a cotton cloth in the middle or a thick paper towel.

Nop, I haven't tried it, just something my dull mind came up with. No guarantees for sure.

If it was a thick blob, then it probably is only on a limited area. Probably too late now, but u could have allowed it to cool down and then lifted it with a spoon or something. That would work before wash, though.

agree with faisal
let it dry - pick it off.

Dont iron it..it’ll send the stain deeper into the fabric.

wax dissolves in methylated spirit and dry cleaning liquid. Dont forget to spot test though.

Oh and butt-out before you handle spirits :stuck_out_tongue: .. you dont want a sweater bbq ..do you? :smokin2:

who- his-uncle-has-dry-cleaning-business -me

what have u been doing with candle wax :hoonh: … hmmmmm… suspicous.. suspicious :hoonh:

I agree with who--me..just take it to a dry cleaning place and let professionals do the job..while you can enjoy ice-cream in front of TV..

Do you have an electrical heater or an electrical oven? Put it slightly over either one and with continuous attention to it, make sure you don't burn sweater fibers in the progress (trust me i've done this) and if all else fails you can always PM Khawateen :)

but my brilliant self will probably set it on fire that way.

Just make sure your brilliant-self is inside the sweater when you decide to use the fire.

Hi Hayaa.
There is product called WAX REMOVER @ beauty supply stores. Run and get one pore some on your precious sweater and rub it. It will be gone with winks ;) of your e yes :).
Good Luck. Let me know if it worked for you.

The "don't try this at home" warning by Munni proved to be reverse psychology for hayaa..

cut up the waxy part and patch it up with brown leather. for better results keep doing it to the whole sweater until you end up with a leather jacket.

Best is to put it in piping hot water. The wax will separate cleanly, since it does not mix with water.

There's a tad bit of a difference between the wax munni mentioned...and this candle wax. :-p

hayaa - Dry cleaner!

Thanks guys for your suggestions. The stain is from last winter and I couldn't be bothered with it at the time so it was tossed deep down into my closet. I still haven't cleaned it yet, I think I'll just go home one day and hand it to my mom with a print out of this page. :)

Ok, no so I did try to blot it out with a hot iron and now it's just a very thin layer, looks more like a grease stain.. which someone suggested to wash out with methylated alcohol. I will get to that one of these days.

Excellent suggestions. I wish all of us could share our ‘major concerns’ of life just as easily as bibi did…
As for the sweater..hmm waisay to mein free mushwaray daita nhin but..I’d say cut a hole in it..na rhay gi bhains na bajay ga ghainta..fashion ka fashion bhi ho jaay ga…hain ji? :smooth:

yeah try all of the above in any order you prefer :smash: and and when it still doesn’t work :silly: :rocket:

Sprinkle some talcum powder over the stain. Now take an absorbant tissue paper and place it over the stain and apply a medium hot Iron until the stain has melted.

Take off the tissue paper and brush off the excess talc residue with a soft brush or use a hoover…and there you go! :biggthumb: ta dah!

Thank you, that will be 3 dollars and 49 cents! :smooth:

hayaa psst

CANDLE WAX

Let cool then scrape off wax as much as possible with a blunt knife. Place brown paper on both sides of wax stain. Iron until the wax melts into paper. Treat any residual colour with denatured alcohol. Be sure to hold an absorbent pad under the stain as you apply the alcohol.
