Can I travel to the US with just my canadian birth certificate and photo ID? or do I need a passport?

No you don't need a passport. I crossed the border without passport last weekend. I showed them my driver's licence, work id card, and birth certificate.

Ruiner, you must be an exception, US has made it mandatory for everyone including Canadians to show passport at border. There is a document on INS site about this too, I dont know the exact link may be u can find it urself or someone else might be able to help.

Just an update....didn't need my passport. BC and photo ID was sufficient, both at the border and the buffalo airport.
