In our office we have a hotdesking policy. That basically means, that the whole office is open space (one big room) and there is no fixed assignment between a specific desk and a specific employee.
The idea behind that is, that people should sit in project teams. And once a project is over you can easily switch places, since there will be new teams with new people involved, etc.
