My uncle just returned from Mecca and noticed something that has me confused. He said that during Namaz at Kaaba, the Imam never recited “Bismillah” (spelling?) before reciting any surahs throughout the prayers. Is there a reason for this or he may have uttered the words but it was never picked up by the microphones?

He probably said it under his breath. Just like the begining of Namaz.

Some sects of Muslims say Bismillah , some do not say it.
