Question on making tea for large group

This may be a basic question, but I really need help. I am hosting a ladies luncheon at my house next month and want to set up a tea station so ladies can help themselves to readymade hot tea and add their own cream and sugar.

I’ve seen people use Coffee Urns which looks very nice. The problem is, I’ve called a couple manufacturers (Hamilton Beach and West Bend) and was told they only recommend using coffee or hot water, not tea bags or loose tea!

I don’t understand why we can’t use tea! If anyone has experience in this matter, please give me some advice. If I want to make 30 cups of tea, would I put in 30 teabags and let it steep for a bit until the color is right and then take out the bags?

THanks.

Re: Question on making tea for large group

just go for it,,my freind use that for all the parties ,,she use 20-25 bags for 15 cups,,dont add milk,,keep aside

Re: Question on making tea for large group

why cant you just put hot water in it and let people brew their own tea bags in thier cups ..

Re: Question on making tea for large group

I have seen this used to hold tea for large gatherings quite a few times. One of the reviewers on the link you posted also said they use one for tea and one for coffee. I would say go for it.

simply for one reason, Since the tap is in the bottom (as it should be) and if you are using loose tea leaves, it can’t filter those leaves out. If you use tea bags, they will simply sit in the bottom and may disrupt flow. :chai:
taking out the tea bags would be a better option.

Re: Question on making tea for large group

My mother does use them for tea. The only thing is that it can get very strong, so you have to keep an eye on that. How many people are coming? If it's not too many, I would recommend brewing the tea in a few pretty tea pots, and having some additional hot water available for alternative teas.

That is sacrilege to us authentic tea drinkers. :snooty:

dont listen to the warning…my sister has one of these and she still adds tea bags and/or kulee pathi and everything is still in working order.

Re: Question on making tea for large group

I use the Hamilton one too, it works just fine for large groups. Put the tea bags and you will do fine.

I agree..
