Anyone have any knowledge, perhaps backed with quotes from the Quran/hadith to my question below…
If you have a circumstance where you are unable to fast during Ramadan, what do you do? My situation is I am pregnant and in the final trimester of pregnancy. Due to some complications and high sugar level, I need to maintain a steady diet for keepng me and baby healthy. Now what can I do? I feel terrible about it. My mom mentioned I should send enough money to provide food during ramadhan for a month for a person? Is this how much$? I would be sending to Paki?
Re: Question on inability to fast....
I will find the quotes, but we jsut covered this topic in our morning masjid halaqa. So here are the rulings:
For a pregnant woman it is not mandatory to fast during Ramadhan but she has to make it up offer Kaffara. Question is how to make it up?
Here there is difference of opinion:
1. She skips the fasts and counts the days she missed then makes up after she has delivered and is healthy.
2. She skips the fasts and makes them up after delivery and feeds 60 poor people.
3. Depends on her condition. If the baby will be in danger then only make up the fast after Ramadhan. No feeding the poor.
If baby is not in danger but she wants to be at ease and eat during Ramadhan then make up after Ramadhan the days she missed and also feed 60 poor people.
Do you still want the quotes?
Re: Question on inability to fast…
This is out of topic. But this is complete website on Ramadan](http://www.islamqa.com/special/index.php?subsite=184&ln=eng)
Re: Question on inability to fast....
I dont have any quotes or references but i was told that Allah (SWT) doesnt want us to go through any hardship therefore if fasting is causing you illness or hardships one can either make them up or pay however much it would cost to feed one person per fast missed. So here in USA it would cost say approx $5-8...take that and multiply by the numbers of fasts missed.
Keep in mind if you can fast comfortably then you should...if not then you have those 2 options listed above.
I will try and find references for you inshAllah.
Re: Question on inability to fast....
"....And whoever of you is sick or on a journey, (let him fast) the same number of days. Allah desires for you ease; He desires not hardship for you ..."[Baqarah 2 :185]
Anas Ibn Maalik said: "The horses of the Messenger of Allah (S) came towards us, so I came up to the Messenger of Allah (S) and I found him eating. He (S) said: "Come closer and eat." I said: "I am fasting." He (S) said: "Come closer and let me tell you about fasting. Indeed Allaah has reduced the salaat (prayer) for the traveller to the half and has removed the burden of the fasting from the pregnant and the breast-feeding woman... " [At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasai].
Ibn 'Abbass ( R ) narrated: With this verse {...and whoever among you witness this month then let them fast it ...} was revealed, then the old men and old women, who did not have the ability to fast, the pregnant or breastfeeding women if they were fearful for themselves or the child, could eat in Ramadaan and feed one poor person for every day missed.
Re: Question on inability to fast....
she already knows she can leave the fast, she wants to know how to make it up...
Re: Question on inability to fast....
it's mentioned in the last paragraph.
she said she felt bad leaving her fasts so i wanted to add the other references as well.
Re: Question on inability to fast....
I have never ever heard of it being mandatory for pregnant or breastfeedign women to fast.
Re: Question on inability to fast....
make up for the missed days after the pregnancy/feeding period for the baby....
i dont think u have to fast the 60 days, because that is only for those who intentionally break fasts without any reason....
Re: Question on inability to fast....
Yes I know I can miss the fast, because I am unable to keep them with last stretch of pregnancy. I discussed with my doctor and she advised against it, as I need a steady stream of food to maintain glucose levels as well. Inshallah hope to make thru it fine, but just needing any references showing how to make it up. Thank you all for the input. I was discussing this last night with my hubby and also he said that the price would be how much it costs to fast here, not in paki, even though id send money back home as I don't know of any needy people here.
Re: Question on inability to fast....
what i know for sure u need to count the days of fasting u missed ( b/c of any sickness/periods/ pregnancy/ delivery/ breastfeeding) in Ramadhan and make it up later on when yr healthy or recovered, as long as yr young and strong , feeding someone in need or fasting"won't cover it up " but would only get u ajar (reward)
