Question for the ladies [split from male gynecologists]

FINALLY.

THIS is why I am angry all the time. Ok fine. It's why I'm angry 80% of the time. The other 20% is because I'd like to get laid already.

Re: Question for the ladies [split from male gynecologists]

It's not just ob's

surgeons. You do realize you get stripped to go to the OR and especially in a teaching hospital you'll have students and residents practicing pelvics and anal on you when you're under anesthesia. It still happens. Plus they need to make the area sterile so they'll expose beyond what they cut.

Gastroenterologists - you want a man to do your colonoscopy? Ok. Sure.

Internists. You want a man to conduct a rectal on you when you're older or do a pap smear on you?

Psychiatrists - you want a man putting you on restraints when you're stripping yourself while in delirium? Don't tell me delirious women don't do such things.

Pediatrics - you want a male to do tanner staging on your 12 year old daughter?

Family practioners do a lot of Ob/gyn clinic type stuff so they're not excluded.

You want a male radiologist doing an interventional procedure on your mom? Again, requires stripping for the procedure.

You want your male interventional cardiologist putting in a line through your mom's groin?

You want a male dermatologist to check out that weird mole on your boob?

Okay fine, then keep discouraging girls from going to med school by all your cultural stigmas against them for rishtas. Keep telling girls that you think these women will be bad moms.

Friggin desis and your culture. Our civilization is so jaahil and barbaad because of it. Pakistan produces so many docs and smart ones too and yet pakistanis have to go to INDIA for procedures and specialists since nearly half the female docs drop put because of rishta pressures.

Absolutely insane.

Re: Question for the ladies [split from male gynecologists]

no i wont be. and neither will be comfortable going to the gyno who is my relative (doesn't matter whether its a he or she.)

exactly..i agree with each and every word you said.. my nand wanted to become a doctor but there was very good rishta and the guy didnt want to wait for 5 years so my sister has to give up (ofcourse because of parents pressure saying that oh you can study after wedding, the guy is rich and he will support you)..guess what happen....now she is a house wife looking after husband's family ...after marrige the in laws didnt allow her to study

about the actual question.

i wont mind seeing a male doctor

Re: Question for the ladies [split from male gynecologists]

i did go to a male gyno once for a follow up visit....so he didn't examine me or anything but it wasnt a good experience. Then again, all the doctors at that place were messed up....i hope they all get fired. Hmph.

Re: Question for the ladies [split from male gynecologists]

I have seen both male and female gynos. I always prefer to see a woman, but when I could not, I never made a fuss. Women's reproductive systems need special attention, and I command anyone who's career revolves around that...male or female. And like Sara said, what to do if no female doctors are available? Ignore your health because its supposedly haram (while it is not)

Re: Question for the ladies [split from male gynecologists]

I had to go to the ER once and the doctor on call that night was a male, to people calling it haram… what do you do in such a situation… would you leave? I don’t think so.

For any routine stuff, I go to female doctors… even for my ultrascreen, I went to an all-female radiology place, my OB/GYN’s office is all females so I feel blessed (I actually did a dance after I found them :hehe:) but if I didn’t have the choice, I’ll probably suck it up and go to a male in majboori.

Re: Question for the ladies [split from male gynecologists]

Never seen a gyno but I've had a male GP and male plastic surgeon.. I just want to see someone who can do the job properly..

Someone mentioned that they tend to become desensitised to seeing a woman's bits, I think that's prob true..

Re: Question for the ladies [split from male gynecologists]

I personally could never do this, but have nothing agaisnt women that do.

Seeing that most desi women won't go to a male gynecologist, I feel bad for my cousin..LOLz.

Re: Question for the ladies [split from male gynecologists]

I prefer a female Obgyn, but if a good one is not available, i would be fine with a male obgyn. Or if I occasionally need a special test, i wouldn't object if the doc is male.

Re: Question for the ladies [split from male gynecologists]

i actually had a male gyno, he was a religious & strict italian (never seen one of those before!). He actually sent me to a women's clinic for all my tests. but would never come anywhere near me. All he did was prescribe medication/review my tests, etc... Even though I was a hijabi, I felt so comfortable with him as my doctor...

I went to female OB /gyn for my babies but her partner was male so if in case of emergency if she was not available he was the one who checked me. Sometimes you cannot do anything about certain things.

Re: Question for the ladies [split from male gynecologists]

I prefer female coz I am too shy :bummer: but if there is no female then male would be fine…

Re: Question for the ladies [split from male gynecologists]

In UK you dont have a choice - you have your appointment booked & you go & see them, whether its a male or female.

Different if its private - then you obviously choose

Re: Question for the ladies [split from male gynecologists]

On a side note, Id be terrified of seeing a female doctors for certain issues - esp if she was young & fit! :)

Re: Question for the ladies [split from male gynecologists]

I would prefer a female but only because I hate doctors (even though I'm a pre-med student, lol) to begin w/ and on top of that I am kinda modest/uncomfortable (for the lack of a better word) if I have to show something of my body in that region, iykwim.

So if I had to show something private, I'd do everything to get a female but I just had to discuss something and not expose myself then it doesn't matter.

Re: Question for the ladies [split from male gynecologists]

i had a male gyno for my second pregnancy, NOT because i wanted it BUT because he was the only professional available to suit my medical needs at such short notice, n MashAllah he was awesome. He was my concultant through the final 3 months of pregnancy befre that i had a lady gyno. Unfortunatly i moved home so i had to chnge my consultant too
