Question for Mothers

Anyone who had a baby, please talk to me…
About how long did it take after delivery for your skin o go back to normal, meaning stretch back…and not be loose blubbery skin. FYI, most of the weight I gained went straight to my belly, and I only had a 7 lb 10 oz baby…so there is a ton of skin just hanging out, making me nervous! Snce i had a c-secion and so much skin, they gave me that maternity support band…but doc says it takes about 3 months total to get better…argh…any personal advice…experiences…advise please.

Re: Question for Mothers

with my first little one, yes it was about 3 months. It isnt the fat thats the problem here, I mean I was back in my size 6 jeans about a week after his birth. But the muscles and the skin need much more recovery time...think about it, they were holding something basically like a bowling ball without a break for almost a year...so whats 3 months right? Just wear support brief panties in the meantime to hold it in, that really helps how clothes look on you and you feel better about the whole mess!

Re: Question for Mothers

congrats afro-sheen!!!!!!!! ive been thinking about u for the past week and hopeing everything went well....!

Mof3, did u have a c-section with ur first as well? Does the recovery take the same time regardless of how u have the baby?

i have a million stretch marks now.. they look like firey flames on my belly, very scary... sigh i hope they go away one day, Inshallah

Re: Question for Mothers

The stretch marks dont go away :(
I had my second baby 4 months ago and still have a big tummy. Although they tell you to wear a maternity belt or what ever that thing is, but it becomes hard to wear it at times..
Just do the tummy exercises when your baby is almost 4-6 months old

Re: Question for Mothers

I will say I got lucky and did not gain a single extra pound, but I did get my share of stretch marks. :(

Re: Question for Mothers

^^ aww congrats girly…is it a boy or a girl?

:hugz:

Re: Question for Mothers

dearest Afro its hard to get rid of stretch marks but they will lighten by the time.Since its ur first baby so ur belly will go back by doing exercise and it will take around 6 mnths after the birth of a baby.

Re: Question for Mothers

i can live wit the stretch marks, but i worry about the drooping belly i have right now. Sadz recovery time for c section is longer because its abdominal surgery and the stitches need to heal. I feel much better after 2 weeks, although it still hurts when i sit or get out of bed...but otherwise ok, doctor still advises to be careful for a while, cant lift anything heavy, cant bend over...just precautions,,,, and it takes longer to be able to start exercise due o stitche.....sucks..but worth it for the baby

wishing u all the best as ur date is nearing...it'll be an amazing experience :)

Re: Question for Mothers

Afro-Sheen many congrats on ur baby! Ur tummy will get better. I had a HUGE baby-well over 9 pounds which for my height and frame was massive and i had all the tummy issues as i gained a lot of weight as well. I wasnt given anything like special belts etc to wear. The only way mine went was thru long distance running. But i think over time it does go.

Re: Question for Mothers

Mubarak to you! It takes awhile, and after you've had a few, it will never be the same again. I wore one of those girdles for a few months afterwards, and I do think it helped "keep everything in the right place".

Re: Question for Mothers

I just had my baby less than two weeks ago and it's amazing
how my tummy has shrunk (well not all the way yet).
I think in my case breast feeding has helped.
It was the same case after my first delivery. Although I gained
a lot of weight afterwards (thanks to junk food).

I am very happy with the progress so far. Hopefully I'll be able to
get back in shape pretty soon.

Sadz
what's your update? :)

Re: Question for Mothers

I also want to add, for some strange reason I don't get so hungry.
I kinda have to force myself to eat. Or I eat when I am craving something.

Re: Question for Mothers

Afrosheen, give yourself some time. It tooks nine months to make that belly, give it at least 9-12 to get back into shape. The stretch marks won't go away completely, but they will lighten considerably over time. When I had my first child, my stomach was so bad due to loose skin and stretch marks, even my mother cried at how ugly it looked (my weight gain was totally normal, and I had lost the baby weight within 6 weeks). But after a year's time, it looked so much better. Your skin will bounce back and while it won't look the way it did pre-pregnancy, it'll look so much better than it does now. Just watch your diet, exercise if you can, and breastfeed (it'll help tighten your stomach), oh and don't get discouraged!
