I’m getting married in a couple of months Insha Allah. My fiancee is in Pakistan, and I’m in the US. I want to spend a year or two with her before having kids, so had some questions about birth control pills:
How soon should she start taking them? Is it okay if she starts taking them a week or so before we get married?
Any possible side effects of the pills that she and I should be aware of?
no, wayyy more than a month before!! it usually takes one full cycle (three weeks) for the body to show symptoms and adjust to the additional hormones... and if she has side effects like weight gain or skin breakout's, a month before the wedding is too soon! she'll already be stressed as it is.
have her see her doctor at least 6-9 months before. it might take time for her to try out different pills until she finds one that she likes. and remember, if she doesn't take them every night, around the same time, or at the same time- they won't be effective--- so she has to be just as committed to this as you seem to be.
there are other options too, like IUD's which are inserted by a doctor, and also Norplant which is a little chip that is injected in the upper arm. if remembering to take a pill is too much, these might be good options for her. but again, her doctor would be the best person to advise her of all the benefits/risks of each method of BC.
If you guys are getting married in 2 months inshallah - then she needs to take them asap. As Niksik said they need to be taken during your period so your body adjusts to it.
There might be some side effects - some women gain weight gain and get nausea but again as some one said it depends on the individual.
It seems you are worried about talking to her bout it. Dont be. My husband touched the topic with me on the phone even tho i had already started taking the pill.
