Re: Question for all working moms

I am a working as well as single mom . Nothing is impossible if u have will. The love for your baby that you will have in your heart will give you strength to manage life Insha Allah.

I leave my baby with my mom. She is the only person I can trust, you can ask your mom if you want to continue working after baby is born.

hope you have a happy and healthy baby in your arms in due time ameen

Re: Question for all working moms

^ thanx for ur wishes inshaAlllah yea my mom wants me to do a job and she wants to look after my baby but i think baby needs a mother feed at least for 6 months isnt it

Re: Question for all working moms

yes !!! I was only able to provide mother's milk to my baby for 1 months because my daughter was premie and she couldn't suck on her own and I was also on some medication which had negative impact on milk production.

You can express milk for your baby and leave it with your mom. I was using AVENT's. You can check out the market and see which suits you best .

Re: Question for all working moms

As you're in Pakistan I don't know which city u r in . You can go to Zubaida's or Baby Shop to find AVENT's products.

Re: Question for all working moms

I'm a working mom and I managed to breastfeed my daughter till she was 18 months.... its not that hard once you set a routine for pumping and all :) You're lucky that you have your mom to take care of her, MashaAllah.

In breastpumps, Medela is considered the best if you can get it. And yeah, Avent is also a good brand... good luck :)

Re: Question for all working moms

The best option is to stay home with your baby, nothing like having your mom with you. (Just my opinion)! But if yo uwant to work, you should pump and leave express breastmilk with your mum. You can also breastfeed in the evening and at night and formule feed during the day. That's what I did with my first born!

Re: Question for all working moms

[note] This is a proactive reminder to the posters here: Please do not get into the debate of who is better: working moms or stay home moms. We have a hot Life1 thread for that, or start a new thread for that. Please stick to the question asked by the original poster. Thanks [/note]

Re: Question for all working moms

How did you manage nursing your baby while going to work/studying?

Did you take the pump with you?

If you missed a pumping session due to some reason (exam in class etc) were you still able to express milk???

After how many hours did you pump?

Which pump do you feel is the most useful--a greater quantity in less time and not being overly-painful.

Re: Question for all working moms

i am also working and see examples of my colleagues around. one of my colleague kept coming to work till her last week and availed 4 moths of maternity leaves post delivery. her 1 1/2 yrs old baby is doing fine and she is expecting a second one now :) she did the same leaves child to her mother < i cant trust anyone but my mom too >

Re: Question for all working moms

I kept the pump at my office but used to bring back bottles and parts for washing. I was bf at home so did not need the pump back at home. I also had a hand pump at home in case if I got engorged and needed to pump.

I was working and it was not possible to get up every 2 hours so I used to pump twice at work. If for some reason I missed the time, (if I was in a meeting or doing something that needed to be delivered) I would still go ahead after meeting or whatever and tried to pump twice.
With bf, it is supply and demand, if there is less demand your body adapts and start producing less milk. So ofcourse eventually my supply was less and less but I still continued bf until my son was 18 months. I had to supplement with formula and once the kids get on solids, it is slightly easier.

Re: Question for all working moms

^^thank you for letting me know. My biggest problem is attending uni and not being able to pump sometimes during school hours--but im going to try my hardest IA. How did you store the milk at work? That will probably be another issue for me as well. Which pump have you been using????

Re: Question for all working moms

I haven't bought one yet but my friend who returned to work has recommended madela brand(costs around $300 but apparently totally worth it) it comes with the cooler containing ice packs to store milk.. she finds it amazing.. I dont plan to buy one until after the birth of the baby and seeing if we need it or not. I will be returning to work after 12 weeks so I will have enough time to figure out if I want/need to buy one or not!!

Re: Question for all working moms

^^heard good things abt Medela too on GS--but mixed reviews on line. Im so concerned cuz I dont get maternity leave:(

Re: Question for all working moms

none??? you can get some unpaid time off though!!

how about renting a pump from the hospital and then deciding if you want one or not???

Re: Question for all working moms

im not working--im going back to school that's why:S:S:S What Ive decided is waiting a couple of weeks, seeing how everything goes and then deciding. Nursing as so many benefits--I dont want my baby to lose out on those

Re: Question for all working moms

oh ok.. makes sense.. just becuase it was in the thread working moms my mind didn't think further!!!

good luck!

Re: Question for all working moms

To the OP, where there's a will... my begum was in her residency during the first year of our daughter's life and she worked 80 hours a week. She managed to breast feed and pump for me to give out as bottles for the first year. My wife pumped during meetings during driving to and from work, during signouts. I have tremendous respect for all you mothers out there who can breastfeed their child for any period of time.

The most important thing is to make your new baby your highest priority and keep a positive mind and everything will fall into place God willing.

Good luck.

Re: Question for all working moms

I also wanted very much to bf and its great that you want to do it too. Its the best thing for the baby and I hope inshaAllah you can do it.
I also used medella pump. I bought the pump machine used but got all the other accessories new like tubes and the pump etc.
I used milk storage bags and ice packs to store the milk during day. Besides we had a refregerator at the office so i kept the milk there during office hours and then for the drive back, I had the ice packs.

I am not comfortable pumping even infront of other women so I aksed HR if I could get a room that i can use privatley for half an hour. I am fortunate that the HR was very co-operative and they did provide me with a room that i used for my prayers too.
At my current workplace, they have lactation rooms so I am sure your uni will have these for the female employees.
If you take prayer break or lunch break , you can use that to pump, just try managing the time.
