Question - Family Business v/s Blue chip

If you were given a choice, which option would you take up and what would your reasons be for choosing that option?

Re: Question - Family Business v/s Blue chip

Does it have to be one or the other? Could one not do time in a blue chip, build his or her skill set and then join or take over the family business?

Re: Question - Family Business v/s Blue chip

Well , the question is , what can a blue chip experience teach us , that, working in a family business cant?

Re: Question - Family Business v/s Blue chip

ohh ok. First of all blue chip companies have the resources to nurture graduates that a family business couldnt compete with (unless its a BIG family business). Second is client exposure that a blue chip company would offer that again a family business would fine hard to match. This would really force the graduate to come out of his/her comfort zone, adapt to the different clients and really learn to apply his or her skills. Not saying a family business couldnt offer that, it can but to a lesser extent and with a less varied client base.

However in a family business youre not seen simply as a statistic like you are in a blue chip company. There a lot more room for personal development and promotions opportunities are less competitive. Also, i think you would be allowed to try different roles. If you come in as an auditor, youre not necessarily stuck with that role so there more room to manouvre. The hours are less demanding (if youre that way inclined) and you have a much bigger voice in a family or SME business that wouldnt get drowned out by the volume of workers at a blue chip.

Thats my take
