I am wondering if anyone has recently known anyone who has come form Pak on a visa to live in the US?
My husband is thinking this process will never be over!!! I would love to be able to tell him that there is light at the end of the tunnel! AND that eventually he will be here with me to live.
SO, does anyone know anybody who has recently (or in the past year) come form Pak on a visa to lvie in the US?
THanks a million! I ewould love to put his stress to rest!
Can you tell me how long they waited? I was told anywhere from 5 to 10 months is average.........but (my husband, the doubter) says lawyers lie.....whichh they do but legal issues and laws are a different story!
And by the way......THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for answering me!!!!
I am born and raised in the US and am a US citizen yes......also yes he is in Pakistan waiting. We are actually planning the wedding for October of this year in Pakistan! Finally!!!!! So, we are both excited about that. I will apply for his visa as soon as we have the copy of our marriage certificate. The attorneys are working on it while I am still in Pak visiting with my new in-laws......they (the lawyers) said it will take 5 to 10 months to get him to the US after our wedding. Soooooooo, we still have a bit of a wait. But, we have waited a long time already so we cavn handle it.
He is just of the mind (having never been to the US before) that the US and it's government do not like Pakistani people anymore, hmmmm let's say for about the past 9 years. (enough said???) I have tried, in vain, to explain to him that this is not the case. That laws here govern the land and as of yet, there are no laws that ban Pakistanis from obtaining visa's. The laws says that if you apply, have all the required paperwork in order, and he passes the security homeland check, well, that all is good and he can finally come home here to the US.....
But, he is Afridi Pashtun, proud, and stubborn I might add...haha.....so I can not convince him that things are different here than what he believes. (always the doubter) But, I told him about this web site and about the people on it and explained that I would just ask if anyone knew of anyone coming here from Pak recently. I knew someone would! So, this should convince him and stop all his stressing......we will be together again soon. And eventually, he will come home to me here in the US to our new life together.
The security background check can take a while, one of my friends dad had to wait almost three years, and for my folks it has been over 2.5 years, so there are chances of delay there. Although my pals dad was in Pak military and my dad worked extensively in middle east and africa so I guess its a more involved checking process.
yes....I certainly hope so! PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME THAT IS NOT TYPICAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is not in the military and his father is the Malik of his village. I was hoping that would speed the process, not delay it!!!!!
OH MY.......PLEASE SOMEONE REPLY WITH SOME BETTER NEWS THAN THAT! I CAN NOT GO BACK TO HIM AND SAY @ TO % YEARS WE WOULD WAIT!!!!!!
its not typical, but you need to know this and you need to tell him the reality which is that with vast majority of these cases, everything goes pretty quickly but there are cases where things get stuck due to background check delays and they are a small percentage.
These are the facts and can be found on DHS website as well.
knowing that its not typical should calm his nerves
but in the event there is a delay, you dont have the risk of being told that you were not upfront.
i duno about the proess .. but let me tell you a funny thing .. ...
visa applicant name matters a lot .. .. .. ..
I am at stdnt visa in canada and i had a conference in US .. officially funded, supported by my university. me and my arabic friend applied for this conference .. and he got the visa and my visa is still in process .. :p .. .. .. its been 3 months .. ..
I know that the process can take a while, and in a few very small cases it can even take years! But, from all the info I have gotten so far, this is suppose to be the process:
After you apply, as long as you have provide them with all the necessary paperwork correctly, (and I have been VERY thoroguh)!!!! LOL.....well then it is suppose to take up to 2 months to get your Visa approved. However, it is thhe interview process that takes a while to get to. THe embassy in Islamabad is so over worked that it takes months to get in there. SO, that accounts for the last 3 to 8 months of waiting time.
I know how it is suppose to go, but I was looking for anyone who recently actually knew someone who went threwit and how long it took.
