Question about US visit visa and sponsorship

Say one of your family members wants to come visit you in US on a visit visa (and you’re a US citizen), is there any particular document/affidavit of support etc you need to send to them in Pakistan to show to US consulate? What has worked for people in that case? Thanks.

Re: Question about US visit visa and sponsorship

Although USCIS website says: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=a971ffa920b82110VgnVCM1000004718190aRCRD&vgnextchannel=48819c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

People often ask how they can help a family member, relative or friend get a visa to visit them in the United States. We appreciate their desire to help and understand that sometimes the need for a visit can be urgent.
Under U.S. law, though, applicants for visitor visas must apply on their own to visit the United States.
To qualify for a visitor visa, applicants must:

  • Complete and sign the required application forms
  • Bring evidence that their visit is temporary and that they will return home after their legally authorized stay, and
  • Undergo security clearance procedures

We understand that you may want to help with the visa process. But it doesn’t help the applicant to write a letter of invitation or guarantee their departure from the U.S. after their visit is over. A consular officer from the U.S. Department of State (not USCIS) evaluates every visa application on its own merits according to the law. You can be most helpful by making sure the applicant has all the information they need to submit a correct application.

Roman, PM me or send me an email or better yet call me. I will explain the process....I have done it twice for my parents... I think you have my phone number...if you did not delete it...otherwise pm me and I will send it.

Re: Question about US visit visa and sponsorship

You need i-134. Here is the link http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-134.pdf
Fill it out, provide supporting documentation as outlined in the instruction section. It also helps if you contact US embassy in pakistan via e-mail. It helped me move the case along or if there was any additional information they needed.. I was able to get it to them via email or fax. Make it simpler and efficient.

Re: Question about US visit visa and sponsorship

My dad withdrew his passport from the U.S embassy in Islamabad after waiting for more than two and a half years to get it back. They were doing a background inquiry on him for last 2 and a half years.

Here is a little background:

  • He has been in the U.S 6 times in last 10 years
  • He has had three multiple entry visas before. Once a 5-year visa and twice, a 2-year visa.
  • He is more than 70 years old
  • He has never overstayed his visa

Getting a visit visa to the U.S is nearly impossible these days for guys. The funny part is, my mom and my dad applied at the same time. My mom got the visa for 2-years but it expired while waiting for my dad's passport to come back.

Re: Question about US visit visa and sponsorship

roman i was in the same situation as u hardly few days back .................. actually my mom applied for visit visa & had her interview last week, we send send her I-134 + job letter + bank statement + various other support documents with personal info in it , she also took lots of related documents ( from my dad + brothers in pakistan ) with her but luckily she was granted visa without even reffering any of the document, it's always good to send such supporting documents from here if yr parents r applying ( btw i'm on visa over here) , but mostly moms/ ladies r granted visas more easily than dads/ men , at least that's what i've heard & seen .

u're right that's what is required. the application form is too simple , so no worrries.

Re: Question about US visit visa and sponsorship

hsap, you're right. Ladies are granted visa without much problem. I'll probably not send anything because in my case the visiting relative is also a lady.

Re: Question about US visit visa and sponsorship

Can one of you sponsor my visit to the US?

Re: Question about US visit visa and sponsorship

legbreakgoogly, are you a hot chic with a tendency to have un-inhibited but yet protected sex with men met on anonymous websites? If so then yes. If no then no.

Re: Question about US visit visa and sponsorship

^^

sorry, thats just not me.

Funny post though.

Re: Question about US visit visa and sponsorship

roman i won't suggest that , just send what u could , even though i knew that my mom might not require any supporting document ( as i was told so) still i send it to her in scans............ u know better safe than sorry :)
