Assalam Alaikum, I have a question in regards to NICOP/POC and was wondering if any of you can answer my question.
I am a dual citizen with both valid Canadian and Pakistani passports. I am planning on visiting Pakistan later this year and need to apply for NICOP for myself and my family. I have a CNIC so I am assuming that I shouldn’t have any problem applying for NICOP but My wife only has Canadian passport and even though she was born in Karachi, she has no birth certificate and she never obtained Pakistani citizenship. My question is, Can I apply for NICOP for my wife based on my dual citizenship or should I try to obtain a Pakistan Origin Card for her?
Re: Question about NICOP / POC
NICOP can only be issued to persons with a pakistani nationality
if your wife is not a pakistani citizen, she can’t get a NICOP, because she is not a PAKISTANI living abroad.
call the pak consulate in toronto for further info, or check their website
Diplomatic Mission of Pakistan in Canada
they also have a something in vancouver

Re: Question about NICOP / POC
Your dual citizenship entitles you to get a NICOP, but not your wife. Since she is not a Pakistani citizen she will only be eligible for a POC, based on your Pakistani citizenship and the fact that she was born in Pakistan.
Re: Question about NICOP / POC
Doesn't "being born in pakistan" entitle you to claim pakistani citizenship at some point (if your current citizenship allows dual citizenship, that is)?

I thought it didn't, but I just read the "Jus soli" article on Wikipedia which lists the countries that grant citizenship to anyone born on their territory. There are only three non-American countries on that list: Fiji, Lesotho and Pakistan!
Re: Question about NICOP / POC
Thanks everyone who replied, I will look into getting POC for my wife as all we want to do is to be able to travel Pakistan visa-free. I thought she maybe able to get NICOP but if not, POC will do just fine. I dont need to get her a Pakistani Citizenship if POC will get us there Visa Free.

POC costs way more than NICOP and is valid for less number of years than NICOP. But NICOP also means "Pakistani Citizenship" under the covers. Just my 2 cents... but think about what you wanna do.

Assalam Alaikum,
I have a question in regards to POC
My wife and son is Chinese nationality and i would like to apply poc for them in pakistan.but when i call nadra in pakistan they said can only apply for your son...coz goverment ban card for wife, is it true? If any one can help me wht i should do.. Any body have foreign wife and holding poc card?
Re: Question about NICOP / POC
I am confused after reading this. my son was born here in uk and he has only UK passport, but i got him NICOP as he is dual national even though he hasnt got Pakistani passport as parents are also Pakistani nationals.
and she is Pakistan citizen even though she hasnt got anything, as she was born there. she can provide her parents passport for reference i guess.
Dear brother, neither you nor your wife can get NICOP. You have to apply for Pakistan Origin Card. You can have NICOP till you are holding a Pakistani passport. Since now you have Canadian Passport you will apply for POC. Yes, if you show on in other word wish to apply on strength of your Pakistan Passport then you can get your NICOP.
Your wife irrespective of having born in Karachi would have to apply for Pakistani visa = no NICOP or POC. She is not entitled for POC - someone above gave you wrong information.
People living in Canada/USA very rarely say once in 2 or 3 year visit Pakistan. Hence for your current journey instead of long waiting for POC, it is better you get Pakistani visa, complete your journey and during you stay in Pakistan apply for POC from a Swift Centre on urgent fee. It would be much better.

i was just wondering how long does it take with the whole nicop process and by when would it be mailed to my house. i basically applied for it on october 11 on the nadra website it says 1 month processing time so im guessing mailing would take 1 to 2 weeks. i ve heard that people have waited 2 months, any idea guys/girls please?
Thank you
Did you apply online at their website? I just checked nadra website. they are not offering online application service for some time now. So just wondering how/where did you apply! ![]()

I believe that your wife never had nationality of country that does not allow dual-nationality with Pakistan (Canada does). If that is the case than according to my knowledge and understanding, your wife can get NICOP and should apply for NICOP (not POC, for her own good). To apply for NICOP, she needs to establish her Pakistani nationality and I believe she can do that as she was born in Pakistan as Pakistani and must have travelled to Canada sometime in past on her parent’s passport (who must be Pakistani too).
I suggest she apply for NICOP because NICOP also establishes that a person is Pakistani and not just have Pakistani origin. POC means that a person is not Pakistani but has Pakistani origin. That in theory means, a person with POC wants to settle in Pakistan than in future that person could get into problem (depending on future Pakistan government policy), but a person with NICOP can settle in Pakistan just like any Pakistani as that person is Pakistani in all respect.
hello
i applied through the pakistani conuslate general office in toronto. Yes it is true they do not offer online services anymore for certain reasons, my father told me which comes as no surprise. Please anyone from Toronto, Canada or the GTA any clue?
thank you

Re: Question about NICOP / POC
MODS, please move this thread to All Views. I believe the majority of the **right people who can answer **these questions do not visit this section (PA) because of a number of reasons (negativity associated with PA, politics, stress etc. etc.). I think more people will read this thread in AV, people will get their questions answered and the topic may interest a lot of other people who are not aware of these policies or would like to share their experiences.
Just my thought.
Re: Question about NICOP / POC
Thanks Guys for all your replies, I didn't realize this thread was still active and so many folks replied since my last post.
I recently spoke to someone with the Pakistani Consular in Vancouver and he informed me that I am eligible for NICOP based on my Dual Nationality and my 2 years old son is also eligible based on my Dual Nationality as long as I can provide then with my CNIC, which I can. He said that my wife can also apply for NICOP but only if she can provide National ID Card of one of her parents. If she can't then she can apply for POC and she will have to provide a CNIC of any of her relative still living in Pakistan.
Only problem is that this can take up to 4 months and since I am planning on going to Pakistan in January, I am just gonna apply for Visa this time and maybe will apply for these cards once I return.
I have a NICOP card, got it last year, as did my brothers and sisters, but none of us have pakistani nationality and we were all born in the UK, so u dnt have to be a pakistani national to get the NICOP card

That's true, but you must be able to provide your parent's National ID card number or CNIC number as a proof that they were once a Pakistani Citizen. My wife can't do it because my inlaws became Canadian back in the early 70s and at that time they never got NIC... I can apply for my son's NICOP even though he was born in canada but he can get it based on my Pakistani nationality.
Did you have to provided them with your parent's NIC?
