A professor refused to give me an extension citing unfairness to other students as a reason. He is notorious for never granting extensions. That has been okay in the past (I have had him for other classes before), except these two particular labs are due on the same day and are worth a lot plus I have a lot of other stuff (two exams and 4 assignments) due around the same time plus as cliched as it sounds I have religious obligations as well. Is there a way I can contest this? I am afraid that I won’t do well in ANYTHING because of the very very little time I have, who should i approach regarding this? the professor won’t budge.
Nope there's nothing you can do really as it woudl ne "unfair" to the others.
I had an exam on Christmas day and a major project submission ( a whole years work) and presentation the day before..but dates are given in advance so you plan ahead...
Our email exchange:
I am sorry Sarah, the answer remains no. There is simply no fair and
manageable way for me to evaluate your situation relative to others in
the
class and as long as that is the case, I cannot exercise discretion on
your
behalf.
Sincerely,
John Ellard
Dr Ellard, I am not in the habit of begging. I agree
that granting of extensions most of the times happens
when people could have managed their time better. in
those cases, giving an extension is unfair for the
rest of the class. I thought my schedule was very
hectic, giving me little time to give my FULL and BEST
attention to everything that is due. But the final
word is yours. Thank you for giving it consideration.Sincerely,
Sarah
Dear Sarah,
While I agree your schedule has been challenging, it
cannot constitute a
basis for granting you an extension. To do so would
be unfair to other
students in the course who with similar or worse
pressures. This is a case
where any discretion on the behalf of one student
sets an unacceptable
precedent for the entire class.Sincerely,
John Ellard
I guess this means I can't contest it.
LK, giving deadline dates is all well and good. However, you can't do an assignment when assignment details aren't provided until a week before.
Was just THIS assignment details given a week before or all of them?
Perhaps taking a break from religious crap and internet never crossed your dumbass mind? Stupid is what stupid does. Learn to manage your time productively and properly.
So sorry to piss you off Madhanee but what part of:
nov 4 - exam
november 8- assignment
november 9- exam, assignment
november 10- an exam, two assignments
does NOT warrant an extension?
As much as I would love to sympathise with you on this issue, but I don't want to, to the wrong person. No offence to your professor, but I am going to plagiarize a bit here.

But havent other students got the same deadlines, and arent they managing?
Your uni seems fairly tough on extensions ... I used to get one for almost all of my assignments, just a bit of ass licking here and there.
Can't you fo to the course co-ordinator or dean?
Go to the program co-ordinator ... assuming John Ellard isn't it.

.
note to myself Never take an J Ellard class
giving ample time to ur studies counts as a religious obligation too…
if u have to meet deadlines, u can cut short the Quran recitation and nafl prayers, and inshaallah u will be rewarded for ur intentions…
but do realize that religious obligations do not end at just prayers and fasting etc etc…
they extend to all fields of our life…
doing our job properly, handling relations properly, and ofcourse handling the school properly…
wake up all night on lailat-ul-qadr and work on ur assignments… :k:
take 4 addad badmaash
take 4 addad Kalashinikovs
take unlimited ammo, just in case the dean gets trigger happy
load them on a Willy's jeep
drive down to ur college
demand an unwarranted extension
if demands = not met
Execute batch file (fire)
don't blame others for your mistakes..
this is a very typical excuse which students make..
are you the only student with that many assignments?
and are you the only one with religious obligations?
believe me everybody thinks that their life is miserable(okay perhaps thats a little too strong ..)..and they are the ones with all the problems you can think of ...
i am guessing you are freshman/sophmore..hopefully you will get used to it (and manage your time in a better way) and 3 yrs from now this post will bring a smile on ur face..
if you want to know some excuses which are sure to work..let me know :-D
