I was listening to a lecture by Dr. Israr Ahmed and there was something he mentioned that I didn’t understand.
He was talking about the conditions that were laid down by the 5th Caliph with Hazrat Imam Hassan [a.s]. The Caliph send a blank paper and said he’d accept any condition Hazrat Imam Hassan [a.s.] would lay.
Dr. Israr mentions 4 conditions that were laid by Hazrat Imam Hassan [a.s.]
Jo jo jang mein shamil thay un ko general amnesty milay
Iran kay ik suba hai Hawiaj (sp?), jis mein oil hai, us ka kharaj mujhe milay
$2 000 000 ka wazefah Hussain ko milay
Or Bani Hashim ko sub say zaida wazhaj milay
Due to my poor urdu I didn’t understand Pt. 4 at all.
But I don’t get Pt. 2 and 3. Why would Hazrat Imam Hassan [a.s.] want oil profits for himself and money for his brother? What for?
If someone could explain in a nice manner, it would be appreciated. Thanks.
Dr Israr Ahmed didn’t seem to mention any other conditions that’s mentioned in the link.
**Items Four:
He (Mu’awiya) should excluded what is in the treasury of Kufa, that is five million (dirhams). So handing over authortiy does not include it (ie this sum of money). Mu’awya should send Al-Hasan Husayn one million dirhams a year, he hould prefer the banu (children) of HasHim in giving and gifts to the banu Abd Shams, and hould divide one million (dirhams) among the sons of those who were killed with the Commander of the faithful at Battle of the Camel and the Battle of Siffi, and should spend that from the taxes of Dar Abjard.5
** ^ I don’t get this part at all. Could u explain perhaps? You could also listen to what I was referring to here at
they lived in 20th century or somethin????
Could be the olive oil? Dollars may have been incorrectly interpreted by Little himself but could be Dinars or "sikka ra'ij ul waqt".... no?
Excellent Captain1 for understanding my mistake. When I put a dollar sign there, it was just meant to be interpreted as money.
I dont' understand I asked a query based on a lecture I was listening to and all they mock is my mistake.
Like I said my urdu is not too good. So just forward till 1 hour 3 minutes to start listening to what I was referring to. Listen to the lecture and try to answer my query, if not then just leave it. Bohut shukriya.
interesting, but only creates more questions in my mind..waiting for some response or some direction maybe even some more work by dr israr ahmed which addresses this further
Probably a different oil. Crude oil was not known or used back then, but olive oil (which someone already mentioned) certainly was known and was very valuable because of its uses in food and personal hygiene.
why would Hasan want profits and other lands for himself or his brother and supporters?.. I dont see why shouldnt he …since afterall they belonged to him and his supporters …only purpose of the treaty was to make peace and stop bloodshed it is wrong to assume that he surrendered ALL his rights.
