Query on honey being declared haram

Re: Query on honey being declared haram

How can you follow all of them? One of prayer is different among Imams. Different obligations also. Therefore, we just have to follow one Imam. I think we are safe, if we follow any of Imam. But they are not a sect.

On the other hand, what about just follow Quran, Hadith and Sunnah? Or 4 Imams? Which one to follow?

Re: Query on honey being declared haram

you must have misunderstood.....it's not honey that made his (SAW) breathe smell bad...it was garlic. The Prophet Muhammed (SAW) hated garlic but it was never declared haram.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Said ibn al-Musayyab that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Anyone who eats this plant should not come near our mosques. The smell of the garlic will offend us." -Al-Muwatta 1.30

It was reported that The Prophet Muhammed said "He who has eaten garlic should not come to our mosque" (Muslim and Bukari)

***these hadiths are referring to the consumption of RAW garlic according to scholars.

I have posted the link and asked you to kindly forward to 19.00 minutes so that no one tells I am mistaken or that I didn’t hear him correct or the like. If you have real player and do hv a few minutes, do kindly click on the link I provided on Post # 1 and forward to 19.00 minutes.

Bro. The Quran is sufficient enough to tell me it’s not haram and I too am honey mad. I have no doubt honey is beneficial for us and Allah has inspired the bees to make it.

Pls re-read my post and see what I mean, everyone. ** All I am asking for is a hadith (if it exists)** which mentioned the wives complaining about his[pbuh] breath and he [pbuh] then declared it haram and then Allah sent an ayah to correct him. It’s hard for me to believe that the Prophet [pbuh] declared something haram without Allah even revealing such a fact to him and Allah had to actually sent down an ayah to correct him.

Get it? no? forget it then :o

Re: Query on honey being declared haram

Honeys NOT haram. God & Muhammad LOVE IT!

Gee one of the Rivers, of four in Jannah is made of **HONEY

**The incident is weel known and true.
God scolded the Prophet, who followed his desires to pealse his wives, i.e AISHA and HAFSA who collborated to deceive /trick him. Thus he declared that **I will “never” eat it again **i.e. forbodded what God had made allowed, and good, on HIMSELF.

Quran-Hadith are clear about this.

Btw, it WAS NOT garlic. Why twist and LIE.
It was honey he ate in the house of one of his wives, (Um Salamah or Mariya?) which they (the envious ones) hated. Thats what would make him stay longer in a wifes house, which “they” hated.

As for Yousaf: ive never heard nor want to hear what he has to say.

Thanks

Re: Query on honey being declared haram

Re: Query on honey being declared haram

Yusuf Estes is clueless.

Re: Query on honey being declared haram

I really feel sorry for the person who posted this thread. Everyone is saying "On Honey isn't haram" or "Yusuf Estes got this wrong" and few even provided the proofs to prove that honey isn't haram. O my Muslims brothers & sisters please read the post carefully before you reply. All of you didn't understand what he was asking. He never said, it's haram! I guess people aren't reading any posts but replying after reading the topic which is quite contradicting with what you're talking about bro.

To answer your question, read the Surah Tahreem's tafseer. Scholars actually have said there were two incidents and then Allah Subhaanhu Wa Ta'ala revealed those ayahs. Most of the scholars have agreed on this honey incident ( this was reported as Sahih by Imam Albani). But Imam Ibn Hajr (May Allah be pleased with him) said that the other incident was also Sahih. He also said it's possible both of the incidents were the cause of this revelation. The other incident was that Prophet(SAW) declared one of his concubines, Mariyah al-Qibtiyyah(RA) haram for himself (meaning he would neither touch/see her). I can tell you both of stories in detail if you want but sorry i couldn't find the exact hadith on net because i don't know the exact reference. Maybe someone else can post it.

Re: Query on honey being declared haram

You're right, this is a famous story of the Prophet pbuh. The wife who gave him the honey was Zainab bint Jahsh (Zaid's RA ex-wife, also a cousin of the Prophet, who was renowned for her beauty). Zainab RA had been given some honey as a gift which she shared with her husband. He overstayed his time with her, and that made Hafsa RA and Aisha RA jealous. So they conspired to tell him that honey made his breath smell bad. When they told the Prophet pbuh this, he swore off honey. Then Allah sent down a revelation that you shouldn't make halal things haram on yourself. The news spread that these two wives were bothering the Prophet, so Umar RA scolded Hafsa (his daughter) about this. The Prophet pbuh separated from the two of them for a month, but after the month was up, both of them realized the wrong of their ways and things went swimmingly afterwards.

Re: Query on honey being declared haram

Thank you for understanding. Actually I don’t have problems about how many incidents could have happened for this ayah to be revealed.

** All I am asking for is a hadith (if it exists)** which mentioned the wives complaining about his[pbuh] breath and he [pbuh**] then declared it haram** and then Allah sent an ayah to correct him. It’s hard for me to believe that the Prophet [pbuh] declared something haram without Allah even revealing such a fact to him and Allah had to actually sent down an ayah to correct him.

^Pls re-read this para, note the red part and see if u get what I mean.

D I D T H E P R O P H E T (PBUH) E V E R **D E C L A R E D ** I T

H A R A M B Y T H E P R O P H E T (PBUH) ?

From the lecture, it is as if to say that the Prophet (pbuh) didn’t know that only Allah can declare things to be haram. Nauzobillah. And THAT’S what I have problem with.

So sort of it goes like this…

Wives say bad breath :snooty:
Prophet (pbuh) goes bad breath? :frowning: Bad breath = haram
Allah reveales ayah :hoonh: who are u to declare it haram?

Btw this is my last time I clarify my query, if no one gets it. It’s ok, just let this thread die and pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeassseeeeeeeeeee don’t tell me honey is not haram AGAIN. I know it’s not. Shukriya.

Re: Query on honey being declared haram

:rotfl:

I’ve never come across a hadeeth in which Prophet Mohammed [pbuh] declared it as Haraam.

I did not listen to the lecture/speech, but either Mr. Estes is referring to something else, or he made a mistake.

So, from my point of view, such a decleration does not exist.

I hope this answers your question

Re: Query on honey being declared haram

I'll post up the hadith once i found it, inshAllah, don't worry. You're miss interpreting this incident. Prophet(SAW) only declared honey haram for himself, not for every one! Therefore, Allah Subhaanhu Wa Ta'ala reminded him that he can't do this! Basically, the whole lesson we get from this incident is that even Prophets(May Allah be please with them) are not allowed to declare something haram or halal.

Re: Query on honey being declared haram

Ahhhhhhhhhh. Finally someone who totally understood my query. Thanks :flower1:

Well I doubt he declared it only haram to himself. I think he just STOPPED eating it. Khair if you do find such a hadith pls post it. Thanks. :flower1:

Re: Query on honey being declared haram

These verses were revealed AFTER prophet declared it haram on him to please one (or all) of his wives. Prophet does not decide what is haram and what is halal, it is Allah hence the verses.
