Queen's English

Royal English accents, the dialects spoken by upper class British society are charming and classy to listen to.
But a study by phoneticians at the University of Munich has revealed after analyzing all of Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas speeches since she became queen over 50 years ago to date, that even the Queen is losing the hang of ‘Queen’s English’ and her accent has gradually been transforming to the “Standard Southern British English”.
The change has been too slight and gradual over the years for anyone to notice and the reason is said to be related to the changes in class structure over the decades.

This study is quite interesting, and was basically meant to study the changes in accents of the same individual over decadeds and incidentally the Queen’s annual christmas address was the perfect option for study; a crisp clear recorded archive of speech delivered each year for 5 decades by the same person in a similar tone.

This study can further lead to how accents, dialects, and even languages change, develop, begin to differ and are adapted by individuals or sects of society and for what exact reasons; migration, social influence, class, climate and so on.

Intresting research.

Re: Queen's English

the queen is just an old pensioner like the rest of em...but she did used 2 look HOT when she was younger!....now its all wrinkles and grey hair!

Re: Queen's English

Well i think society effects the language we speak, in my language and society class we were studying about this Saphir Worf hypotheses which states that languages effects the society and I didn't quite agree with it...this reseach is just proving my point....

yes very interesting research....

Re: Queen's English

I think its also purpose driven in order to appeal to avg ppl rather than be seen as on overlord.

Re: Queen's English

^^

seems to be a good point. but why wouldn't Prince Charles or others do that specifically Prince William who's gonna be the future king.

Re: Queen's English

They do and they did.
its not just the queen its the entire royal family
the research report here is one thing but i have been hearing this about them chaning how they speak so common ppl can identify more with them, ever since the 80s.
Do this, find prince charles interview tapes from when he was going to get married to diana, come on every damn desi family recorded it for some reason, and contrast how we spoke then with how he speaks now.

the difference may be even more than what you notice in the queen's accents.

Re: Queen's English

well, it makes sense though. I mean, they need to keep their presence and authority which seems to be fine now. But its hard to keep it this same way.
so being with the people, trying to be like them is gonna be very helpful.

And yes, I have seen the wedding video :D
