Anyone have any more information about who lit the beacon in Pakistan and where it it? Apparently every country in the Commonwealth lit one today at 10pm.

Re: Queen's Diamond Jubilee Beacon in Pakistan

This is not something of interest or value to people in Pakistan, maybe the ceremony would be held somewhere in the government circles.

Re: Queen's Diamond Jubilee Beacon in Pakistan

But the Christians of Pakistan have some affiliation with Queen .
And also that She was mine queen some time likely when I born .
She was crowned queen of seven Commonwealth countries, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Ceylon, now known as Sri Lanka.

Re: Queen's Diamond Jubilee Beacon in Pakistan

Hmmm ok. You would have thought there would be some publicity around it.

Wonder who lit the beacons in 2002 and 1977 if there were any?

Re: Queen's Diamond Jubilee Beacon in Pakistan

I don't remember any in 2002, 1977 I don't know...

Re: Queen's Diamond Jubilee Beacon in Pakistan

I don't get the whole thing. Whats the purpose of royals & what purpose is the Queen serving these days?

Re: Queen's Diamond Jubilee Beacon in Pakistan

^ mostly it's a cultural thing plus marketing of England I guess, the state has to pay for the expenditures of the royals and this will have to be stopped at some stage maybe after queen Elizabeth.

Re: Queen's Diamond Jubilee Beacon in Pakistan

^ Its history!

She is head of state and head of the church of England.

She is also head of the Commonwealth.

Re: Queen's Diamond Jubilee Beacon in Pakistan

It's a diplomatic and government advisory role. The queen is the only person in the world who talks regularly directly to the heads of government is about 16 countries, which puts her in a unique position to facilitate relationships between those countries and to enable the experiences of one country to be shared with others directly at the highest level.

Diplomatically, the royals and the queen help Britain's relationships particularly with other monarchies, such as strategically important gulf monarchies. Saudi royals build up long-tern personal ties with British royals which translates into British influence.

And lastly, particularly in democracies where the individuals involved in government change regularly, the Queen enables experiences from an early generation to be shared directly with later governments.

For example, during the Falklands war in 1982, Britain's Prime Minister received advice from the Queen on how Britain's experiences in its last war, the Suez War of 1956 could be learned from. Unlike anyone in Margaret Thatcher's government, the Queen had been very closely briefed on the 1956 war as it went along, and therefore knew more than anyone in the government about the way it went.

Re: Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Beacon in Pakistan

In 1953 when she was coronated, one of the titles pronounced on her was still Queen of Pakistan (though not of India any longer). Her coronation clothes included symbols of all the countries she was Queen of - the Pakistani government designated a bundle of jute to represent Pakistan on there.

Interestingly enough, as a result of the coronation celebrations that year, there was one day in 1953 when all of the soldiers guarding and parading at Buckingham Palace, her residence in London, were from the Pakistan Army.

Re: Queen's Diamond Jubilee Beacon in Pakistan

like I said in my earlier post , Pakistan was a British Dominan until March 1956 , and was ruled by the Governor General , infact from 1947 to 1956 we had 4 Governer Generals

1- M A Jinnah 15 Aug 47 - 11 Sep 48
2- Khawaja Nazimudin 14 Sep 48 - 17 Oct 51
3- Malik Ghulam Mohammed 17 Oct 51 - 6 Oct 55
and

4- Iskandar Mirza 6-Oct 55 - 23 March 56

it was after the passing of first consitution of Pakistan on 23 March 56 Pakistan became a republic ,before it , it was British Dominan
