I always stated that Germany will defeat Argentina but Germany will be defeated by Spain in semi-finals

These South American teams Brazil and Argentina have a lot of skill and flair but defensively they are not as good as some of the european teams notably Germany. You would almost never see a German player concede an own goal

^^ yup...South American teams are very good offensively but have major flaws in their defense....
Its all good when they are on the attack...but when they run into strong defensive teams like Holland and Germany...they run into trouble and Germany is merciless in exploiting holes in the over-stretched defenses just like they did to England

What a shambolic performance!
Lesson from the WC... you cannot rely on your forwards alone to bail you out. You need a strong defence. Argentina had Walter Samuel who was so instrumental in CL but Maradona did not play him... dont know if he was injured or what but performance from Demichellis and burdisso was shambolic.
Germany is a very good counter attacking team. Lets see how they fare against Spain who just (that is if Spain goes through).

at the end of the day its a team sport..the better team wins, while germans have been down in recent years, this performance reminds me of their team from late 80s and early 90s which was a precise, quick, organized well oiled machine.
lessons for all, especially england, france and italy..

Spain are good in mid-field but they rarely score more than one goal against top teams
And this German team has shown that they can score 3-4 goals against the very best

Just been reminded that's the 3rd time they've scored 4 goals in a game in this WC.
What an extroadinary achievement, Germany have been in the last 4, eleven times in the 15 WC's to date.

I think its unfair to compare Argentina and Brazil just because they are south americans. They have grown in totally different directions. Brazil has top class defenders and they are very pragmatic in their approach under Dunga.
While Argentinian defenders are shambles but they like to keep the flair going.
