Peace All
Quarks are subatomic particles. They are the constituents to the baryons and mesons.
Mesons tend to have two quarks and the baryons have three. The charges of quarks determine the overall charge of the baryon or meson.
The following quarks are:
up
down
strange
charm
top (truth)
bottom (beauty)
u, d, s, c, t, b
Each having anti-quark equivalents.
A proton has a charge of 1 +ve and is made up of three quarks … uud
Each u quark has a charge of 2/3 +ve and each d quark has a 1/3 -ve charge this brings the overall charge for uud to 1 +ve.
Likewise the Neutron is again a baryon and is made up of udd. The combined charge brings the total to 0.
Anyone like to comment about different quark combinations or even some exchange sequences between subatomic particles to add to this thread?
