Qualifications of "Scholars"

Today’s “Scholars” in Islam.

Can you name some scholars, and list their training. Where did they go to school? Where did they get their Islamic education? Under whom they studied and learned Hadith, Arabic, History and translation of the Quran and what other subjects they’ve studied.

I’m just curious - you see all these young “scholars” online being quoted by everyone on facebook, but what are their backgrounds and training?

Re: Qualifications of “Scholars”

Nice topic! One scholar I’d like to name is Dr. Sayed Ammar Nakshawani he has a B.Sc in Psychology and Law and he has an MA from the Shahed Beheshti University in Tehran and a Phd from University of Exeter examining Caliphate under the rule of Muwaviya ibn Abi Sufyan. He has also gone to the seminaries in Damascus focusing on Arabic Grammar, Hadith Studies, Logic, Science of Jurisprudence, History, Theology, Mysticism and Quranic Sciences.

I tried summarizing the info found on his website which you can check out as well!

"seminaries in Damascus focusing on Arabic Grammar, Hadith Studies, Logic, Science of Jurisprudence, History, Theology, Mysticism and Quranic Sciences"

This is my point. What does this mean? Seminaries...so the suicide bombing factories of Manshera are also "seminaries"

What seminaries? Where? What are their qualifications?

Guess what? Madrassa system all over muslim countries have NO SYSTEMATIC QUALIFICATION SYSTEM. There is no ACCREDITATION. It's not like college systems in the US where you have to get accredited in order to function and be a reliable place for students to enroll and get their degrees.

These seminaries are ALL pretty much unacreddited places of learning.

And if you try to get them to register - well, look what happened when Musharraf tried to get the seminaries in Pakistan to register, so they could be analyzed for qualify of curriculum - these pieces of scum gathered together and banded with Kuffar to make Musharraf look like a traitor.

This is "muslim scholars" for you. Thug culture. "Let us do what we want, we aren't to be held accountable".

Re: Qualifications of "Scholars"

Is this thread to share credentials and education of Ulema?

Shaykh Yasir Qadhi, PhD, is the Dean of Academic Affairs at AlMaghrib Institute. He is one of the few people who has combined a traditional Eastern Islamic seminary education with a Western academic training of the study of Islam.
Shaykh Yasir graduated with a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston, after which he was accepted as a student at the Islamic University of Madinah. After completing a diploma in Arabic, he graduated with a B.A. from the College of Hadith and Islamic Sciences, and then completed a M.A. in Islamic Theology from the College of Dawah. He then returned to America, and completed a PhD in Religious Studies from Yale University.
He has authored several books, published academic articles, and appeared on numerous satellite and TV stations around the globe. His online videos are of the most popular and highly-watched Islamic videos in English.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi is a resident Scholar of the Memphis Islamic Center. He is also a professor at Rhodes College, in the Department of Religious Studies.

Re: Qualifications of "Scholars"

Yeah and there are a lot of people who question Qadhi.

Memorizing Quran in Pakistan? That's a accredited verified credential these days?

Re: Qualifications of "Scholars"

They put that on their website.

Re: Qualifications of "Scholars"

Do you honestly think that's an ok form of accreditation?

Oh uhhhhh yeah duuuuhhhhh I learned Quran from someone in Pakistan...somewhere...in some seminary.

??

Re: Qualifications of "Scholars"

You can memorize Quran... almost every other mosque in Pakistan teach Hifz classes..

Nasir Jangda is not only Hafiz, he enrolled in Jamia Binoria. This is famous seminary in Pakistan. He studied there almost 7 years.

I am not expert on their courses. Students around the world enrolled in those institutes.

This is good question. What should be minimum education and accreditation to become Scholar?

Re: Qualifications of "Scholars"

My bad, I shouldn't have said 'seminaries' its just one seminary which in fact is the Hawza Ilmiya Zainabia, established in medieval Syria surrounding the Shrine of Seyyida Zainab! Google would be much better in providing you an in-depth answer as to the difference between a Hawza and a regular madressah however, from what I understand they are research Universities where people are encouraged to go after acquiring there high school Diploma's and undergrad degrees. Hauza's aren't found in every corner of every Muslim country because they are associated only with Shia Islam! And yes Hawza's are accredited but more than that respected in the world of Shia Islam.
