I’m sure the Canadian residents must be familiar with the recent news about Québécois granted the status of a nation. I also read the First Nations are a little unhappy about it, as they fear their special rights/status might be undermined.
On the other hand, I’m having trouble grasping the purpose behind the idea. Canada has two national languages and I’ve always felt both Anglophone and francophone deserve equal entitlement, so why should francophone (or Québécois) be singled out for the status of a nation within Canada?
The durned french are always up to no good and making demands to secede, and so as such they have basically gotten away with most , if not all their demands...
This is utter nonsense. I think now that they have granted this status, they should be forced to sign the constitution of Canada. The ****ing PQ have ruined the potential of the great city of Montreal.
I don't see the big deal. Using the UK as an example, England, Wales Scotland and Northern Ireland are classified as distinct nations. The United Kingdom is state that is a political union of 4 nations.
In many sports such as Football and Cricket, there is no British team. Instead, you have England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales competing as separate and distinct nations in international tournaments and events.
Separate nations can exist as part of the same state without compromising the integrity of the state.
Also in the most important sport of all… Rugby, which ultimately gave birth to Canadian football (which gave birth to American football, a sport played by guys who are such pansies that they have to wear helmets and shoulder pads despite it being less physical than rugby which is played with virtually no protection…)
Is it really a non-sense and is it really something unjust/unnecessary? Afterall they were amongst the first few to arrive and settle in the region. I don't see anything wrong with them trying to preserve their language and culture.
They have preserved every bit of their language and culture, even before the PQ began in the late 70’s. If they’re afraid of losing their culture, they would have lost it a hell of a long time ago.
