Qeema & mushrooms salan

If I am to make qeema and mushrooms,desi style…like a salan..how will I do that…??
Should I just cook the qeema and then toss in the mushrooms or should I maybe stir fry them before I add it to the qeema.I came across a recipe online which said marinate the mushrooms first and then add to the mince.

If anyone has made it,can you please share the recipe.

Thanks.

Re: Qeema & mushrooms salan

I dont think there is a need to marinate the mushrooms. LIke you said, maybe stirfry them quickly and then add to the keema. They dont take a long time to cook, so perhaps just sauteeing and adding at hte last minute might be ok too. That sounds like a good combo btw.

Re: Qeema & mushrooms salan

my mum makes it - will ask her whether she fries them first or just adds at the end and bhoon slightly.

Re: Qeema & mushrooms salan

Ira...I think so too, that slightly stir frying them will be a good thing.
Qeema is something very much liked by all of us and cooked almost 2 or 3 times a week.I need new ideas and veggies I can add to it.I think it should be good tasty combo.

Maheen...Will really appreciate that...:)

Re: Qeema & mushrooms salan

I like the mushroom idea a lot!

I assume you've added aloo, spinach, mustard leaves, peas, green peppers, green beans, etc.

Re: Qeema & mushrooms salan

I have added aloo, peas, carrots, loads of onions (as in qeema pyaaz),green peppers (my husband does not like it),kerela etc...all separately though.

I feel we end up consuming a lot more potatoes especially in Ramadan,so I need to have something else.

I have never tried qeema with spinach. How do you make that??

I need to get groceries this weekend and will get mushrooms and hopefully report back...:)

Re: Qeema & mushrooms salan

Oh with spinach it's yummy. Not a ton of new flavor, but lots of good nutrients. The mustard leaves are especially flavorful and yummy with keema -- try that. With spinach or mustard leaves, I think you just toss in once the keema is almost done, and it should cook through pretty quickly.

oh and try different herbs: cilantro is always good. and methi is yummy!

Re: Qeema & mushrooms salan

Keema is so versatile. Do you want it desi style? I like adding beans, salsa and some taco seasoning and then layering keema and tortillas in a mexican lasagna type dish. Sprinkle with cheese and bake. Its yummylicious!

Aww sahar kia hua?

Re: Qeema & mushrooms salan

Butter beans, black eyed peas, red kidney beans, also taste great in keema

Re: Qeema & mushrooms salan

Ira...oh it has to be totally desi...my husband has only desi taste buds...:(

Sahar...kia ho gaya...??..I'll try it with mustard greens. It sounds yummy.

Tigerlily...Thanks for the suggestion...I have never tried red beans in qeema.Do you use the canned stuff.I use the canned red beans to make a simple quick salan.

Re: Qeema & mushrooms salan

I made it today. It looks good and smells good as well, will report back on how it tastes after iftaar.
I stir fried the mushrooms in a lil bit of oil for a few mins, and then added them to the cooked qeema and put on ‘dum’ for a while.I think they absorbed all the oil and I had to add more to fry the onions for the qeema, hence more oil went into the dish than usual.Next time I might add them without stir frying.

Re: Qeema & mushrooms salan

I made keema mushrooms, corn, and string bean salan the other day. I bhonafied the keema, added the vegetables and little water and let them cook. It was delish. I made noodles and rice with the same keema salan.

Re: Qeema & mushrooms salan

Try adding eggplant to qeema, it turns out yummy.
