Qayyum Report

for the longest time, a question mark has been attached to the careers of some Pak players due to the so-called Qayyum report. now these cricketers are becoming involved with running Pak cricket. and every time one of these players’ name comes up for consideration for various postings, the findings of Qayyum report are inevitably brought up. and the Sarfraz Nawaz/Qadir types have a field day.

now, I also believe that there was some serious hanky panky going on in world cricket (not just Pak cricket) in the 90s and many leading players from all teams were up to no good. but coming back to Pak cricket, is it really fair to persecute our cricketers on the basis of the findings of a report by a man who has proven over an extended period of time that he no integrity whatsoever? Malik Qayyum is a man who was forced to resign from his post as judge because he was found to have given a biased decision in a famous political case. instead of facing the inquiry, he chose to resign because had he been found guilty there would have been a lot to pay for. so, resigning was the easy way out without admitting any guilt.

we have discovered many heroes in the past few years of turmoil and tumult… people who have gone from little fame or total obscurity to nationwide fame due to their leadership. and then there is Malik Qayyum who has gone from some notoriety to nationwide condemnation and shame.

is it fair to our players to be condemned due to the findings of a report penned by a man as third class as Malik Qayyum? I’m not saying that we institute a new inquiry (who would want to go through that torture again) or that we publicly rescind that report. but surely it is unfair to our players to be condemned by a crook? even Saleem Malik deserved better than to be banned on the recommendation of Malik Qayyum.

Re: Qayyum Report
