Well, I don’t have much info regarding Qawals or the art of Qawali.. just that during the Zia years we got a good doze of these Qawal bands. I can kind of relate to what you are trying to say in your third point on a third voice that comes from within the group… that you so eloquently referred to as the ‘pangay baaz’ You know Rahat Fateh Ali Khan can be categorized as such ‘cuz seriously when he was in the NFK Qawali band, his was the most shreiking voice…it was a shock when I came to know he took over frm NFK after his death.
Anyhow, its good that we haven’t heard any of his qawalis since then. But his new songs in that movie Paap are awesome :love:

Do guys think qawalis are shirk? But some of them are hard to understand, im just asking, coz i’ve heard some, and i want to recommend some, but im not sure if i should or not..

Qawaali is just another genre of music. So the question of "shirk would only arise for specific words used in some qawalis, and not to the whole genre. On the other hand, there are some narrow opinions expressed that all kinds of music is haraam, so qawalis (whether devotional or otherwise) would be no exception. But thats not the purpose of this discussion.

Aziz Mian never had a pange baaz...in his band. His band just composed of Himself on the vocals and the harmonium. And abt three...people who were the chorus and clapped...no pange baaz there.
Sabri Brothers....in their case, Ghulam Farid Saab himself were the Big Pange Baaz, goin on with his HAQ ALLAHHHHHH....
NFAK, it was his bhatijaa who was the pange baaz, cant remember his name now, he had a really high pitched voice.

Maaan :D this Allllaaaaah was so famous back in 80's. But NFK's bhatija is the one who's singing some fatablous songs for Indi films, Its Rahat Fateh Ali.
