Ok I get you didn't watch the movie as was on the phone. I know a friend who was an engineer, got a job in UAE and he was literally put into bonded labour kind of situation. The passport was with the employer, couldn't leave and paid barely enough to survive. Low paid labour lives like sardines in one bed room apartments. The situation is worse in Saudi Arabia where I have hard that one should not leave the vehicle started with women inside, as some one would drive it away with women never to be seen. Slaves for life.
Re: Qatar using modern day slaves for World cup preparation
I have several family members who worked there...as does my wife...no problems so far.
But that's not the point. The point is, when something goes wrong, there is no recourse. There's no oversight. There's simply no concern. I wouldn't want to work in a foreign nation where my health and welfare is a function of the charity of others. I need the state to threaten it's citizens with punishment if I am mistreated, in a well defined manner. Further, the state must carry out punishment of offenders in a fearless manner.
That is what is missing, regardless of what you want to call the system.
But it must be said...the nature of the system is well known. If people still flock to these regions, one can only imagine the horid situation people are leaving behind. As if Pakistan, India, or Indonesia have exceptional labor standards...pot calling kettle black here...

Yes, kidnapped/smuggled kids (or bought from poor parents) used as child camel jockeys have lot of say in how they end up in cages of some rich Arab Sheik...for his sadistic pleasure/entertainment.
Re: Qatar using modern day slaves for World cup preparation
i have read a lot of stories abt these kids in the press but never saw a documentary…heart breaking to say the least
how i pray that somehow these arab states including saudi arabia fall on the wrong side of the USA for whatever reason and then USA army attack them.
of course allah is not going to come to earth to serve justice…it will use certain forces to destroy zaliaemeens…and looks like allah has chosen USA for that role…qadafi in libya, sadam in iraq, talibans in Afghanistan and now hopefully bashar in syria…all faced Allah’ wrath in form of USA and inshallah one day UAE and Saudi will face that too!

You can actually eliminate the Arab connection. Most end up on the streets in said countries, begging...some are castrated and become a part of the Hijra cult...so on.
Again, pot calling kettle black.

Yes, and that totally justifies what's happening to these poor children. And this is not pot calling kettle black, but rather amusing that religiously inclined posters on GS are defending this barbaric practice instead of condemning it. This again has to do with desi (Pakistani) mentality that Arabs are some how holly/better than rest and questioning them, or murder and mayhem caused by them, amounts to blasphemy.
Re: Qatar using modern day slaves for World cup preparation
They are sick. Money has made these baddus worst, no islam in them they are just trying to copy western culture with islamic touch in it, thus poorly failing at both.
Having said that, those arabs with practising religion are one of the best i have met.

fine I was not as careful with my words as I should be but i stand behind my thesis....and what kind of pakistanis you guys are....arabs can do whatever they want to our kids and to our poor masses and we treat them like prince in our country? it needs to change.....have some izzat nafas... stop respecting them just because islam came there....yes i pray that one day they fall on the wrong side of the USA so that they also get the taste of the same medicine which they have been giving to us for so long
but i know nothing will change..when mohamamd bin qasim and mahmood ghaznavi type looteras and invaders will be portrayed as muslim jihadi fighters heros, we will keep on worshiping arabian/persian/turkish culture!
Re: Qatar using modern day slaves for World cup preparation
Absolutely disgusting practice.
These rich Arabs don't seem to have any sympathy for little souls it seems.
They probably justify their acts by thinking they are giving these little kids food, water/shelter or plain and simple own them.
I won't be surprised if they take care of their camels better than these little kids.
This practice is no where near Islamic. It is also against basic principles of humanity.
Re: Qatar using modern day slaves for World cup preparation

Who the hell says it's justified? Rather, this arab hating is uncalled for because the same if not worse happens in Pakistan...how many times have you brought that point up, or commented on that? It's far more honest to say we haev the same problems than to point at others and say hey, they're barbarians with the implication being we're somehow prestine. So spare me this facade of trying to "stay on topic"...the topic is of greater scope than far too many hear are willing to admit.
And who mentioned religion? Most of these people in the Gulf Arab states that do such things are living quite flamboyent and un-islamic (read: secular) lives.
Again, perhaps nothing you'd want to admit...
Re: Qatar using modern day slaves for World cup preparation
Employment is slavery - you are viewing slavery with a modern mindset and you are juxtaposing it against employment (a new name to an old concept) … you need to realise that the rights enjoyed by employees of today were enjoyed by slaves in the early Islamic period.
About the only difference in modern employment and Islamic slavery is the idea of “ownership” … setting a slave free is like cancelling their contract … but to send them off with a package that they can establish their own business. This is why many slaves resisted in the early Islamic period from being set free, because then they would have to fend for themselves. Islam gradually edged towards a culture where people were no longer owned.
The slavery that we see today is inhumanity and it is vile … the slavery itself need not be, but the conduct of these people has to be improved.

Respectfully ... picoico did not say that it is justified, if you actually read what he wrote he was weary of the work situation in the middle east ... to say he is defending it or anyone else is a lie ... No one thinks the Arabs are holier ... but what I certainly do think is - that we have a global problem ... not only are people treated with injustice in these Arab despots ... but also our own countries around the world are too dismissive of this fact - our embassies can do more to protect the citizens who become workers in Arab countries - but there is silence.

You justified it when you said "[most] end up on the streets in said countries, begging...some are castrated and become a part of the Hijra cult...so on". And, it is not Arab hating when pointing how rich Arab Sheiks are abusing children and workers. You maybe fond of them, but the rest of us don't have any fondness of them or their backward ways.
Btw, the workers who go there knowing the risks they may face...thats fine, but the children who are sold to these Arabs like cattle for 500 dollars each have no say in it & anyone who defends such practice is no better than those who are involved in these gross humans rights violations.

Re: Qatar using modern day slaves for World cup preparation
The Persian Gulf countries are flushed with money so they can perhaps afford to be a little more 'generous' toward blue-collar workers and laborers than the average banana republic in the developing world. The appalling working conditions that construction workers and laborers face in those prosperous countries take some of the luster off their rulers' attempts to build modern oases in the desert replete with the "biggest" this and the "tallest" that...
