**DUBAI - Qatar will no longer grant visas on arrival to citizens of several countries, including Britain and the U.S., from May 1, in a major policy change by the Gulf state, diplomatic missions said.

Its odd. It doesn't really affect the US or the UK that much. But it does affect their troops deployment in Iraq and Afghanistan. Its more like a slap on the wrist than a slap to the face.

I was thinking it is odd in the sense that Qatar is not like Saudia or UAE. It needs people to visit the country. Weird putting this curb, it doesn't affect US or UK citizens, it just directs traffic to other cities in the ME region.

Decision making in these countries are normally matter of personal likes and dislikes. polices have to set by the officials to meet the mood on a particular day.. soon this will be lifted...if ever implemented

They have stopped visa on arrivals for countries who dont offer it to their citizens. AUstralians, Newzealanders, Malaysians still get it on arrival bcoz they offer it to them.

Qataries have been charting a relatively different track from their counterparts in the gulf. On a different note, the science and technology inclined might want to check out QSTP, where they’re spending tons of money in acquiring and training in new technology. our group just setup a pretty extensive robotic surgery center for them.

Icon's right. The UK and US require visas for Qataris. U.K nationals need visas to go to India and China, and you should see the lines in front of their respective diplomatic missions. But can't see anyone lining up to visit Doha. Spent two days in that city, and it is definetely the most boring place on the planet.
