Qatar Airways and infants.....

Anyone been on qatar airways, how do they entertain the children. ive only been on emirates and they are the best. coluring books etc and taking pics of the children and giving them their photo in a frame really made the flight worth it. my daughter was happy. do qatar do the same. and i wanted to ask, what is a childs meal? what do they provide for the children to eat, or is the adult one better.

Thanks.

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

No children's entertainment! At least not on any Qatar Air flight I've been on so far.

If you are taking a LONG DISTANCE flight, not a SHORT DISTANCE flight, they will give the kids a little Sponge Bob themed bag with a few things in it. Sometimes, you need to request it if they haven't brought it at the beginning of the flight.

The children's meal is primarily junk food, in a keepsake yellow plastic box. Lunch and dinner meals originating from Doha are chicken nuggets and fries, and breakfast meals are beans and franks. All are served with chips, jelly beans, chocolate bars, a cookie, etc, and some kind of sugar water drink.

My son is a VERY picky eater, so at least he has a bag of chips on the flight!

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

we took the 8hr flight ....crew were nice..we ad the stopover at qatar airport for 1 hr it was very crowded and hot there .My son started crying badly ..in fight he vomit and what not...fight attendents were very helpful(i guess they were malaysians) ..they give spongebob goodies etc...my son is fussy eater so we took his favorite eatables with us

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

You can pack your own coloring supplies.

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

sahar-yes i can, but ive seen kids who dont want what mummy is giving them, they prefer something special from the stewards, ive seen my lil bros and nieces face light up when they get a gift thats not expected. and when i gave my brother who was 3 at the time, some books i bought with me, he just chucked it.

my daughter, yes only1, is a right madam. shes already demanding and ordering us around. but once shes given a gift from someone, shareef bachi ban jaati hai for atleast an hour. so im hoping qatar airways will do the honours.lol. otherwise itl be a long flight.

my flights a long one. its 2 hours to qatar, then 7 to london.

sigh i love emirates.

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

train her to be content with what she has and she will be just fine!!

You can always pack a brand new set of coloring books/pencils/toys/candy etc in a bag and give it to her in the plane.. if it's something new and different, of course she will love it, doesnt matter if it comes from your or the steward!!

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

Qatar is good too. You'll miss some of the features of Emirates, but it is still a million times better than any American or European airline I've every flown.

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

it's interesting that everyone raves about Emirates.. I had teh worst experience with them! same thing with my friend who took her 2 children under 2 to Pakistan couple of years ago.. they even refused to give her some extra milk when she ran out of it. It was a nightmare for her!

I, on the other hand, hated their food and service.. I felt like they had so much nakhra! movies were good though :D

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

lol GTG that is much easier said than done!!!

nadz, that's true. In case the airline doesn't provide, perhaps make a little stash of new items that she hasn't seen that you can introduce to her during the flight.

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

Contentment is not a known thing to one year olds (or even 1.5 year olds...)...:p

Get some new stuff for her and maybe even wrap it in some fancy paper or bags...she will be really interested in it.I have always found that to be the case with my 1.5 year old.Anything new keeps her entertained for a while.
The best thing to do is that be prepared yourself...take with you whatever she likes to play with or keeps her entertained, plus her favorite edibles....this way if you do not get anything from the airline, you wont have a hard time during the flight. And if you do get a goody bag for her, that will be a bonus..!!

I had lots of toys for my 9 mth old when I traveled last .They were good for a few hours. Then she found the plastic cups and loooved them.We played with them a lot too...:D
Anything new and different is most likely gonna work for her..

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

I always get new cheap toys for the kids (the dollar/pound shop kind) and give them one every hour. Works like a charm. Airlines are now getting stingy with meals. If you have an infant with you, bring some eatables with you. You are pregnant, yourselfso do pack something to eat for yourself as well.

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

^ Good idea!

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

You are getting yourself into lot of trouble if you are letting your daughter order you around. You have to teach them that there are limits and boundaries.

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

air France gave the girls little zippered pouches containing some coloring material and toiletries. Don't know about Qatar.Best is to stock up on activities for your child. Why build the expectation. If they get it, good, otherwise who cares. I usually carry little dolls with clothes and accessories, coloring books and crayons, play dough, and now that the girls are older, we have their handhelds. If you want go invest in a portable DVD player with earphones so she can watch her favorite shows.

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

What the?
Shes asking about airlines, not how to raise a kid!

How do you even teach a 1 year old about morals and stuff?

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

The only thing u can teach a 1 yr old is hugs and kisses!!! I think nadz is just exaggerating. I'm sure her one yr old doesn't know who is giving her what, just that she's getting something to play with. Oh and also godee ki aadat. That's one thing you can control, if you want to.

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

I think it's normal for toddlers to get upset and bored on a plane for hours. It's pretty normal for them to challenge you and demand to do things their way. It's part of them discovering their world and figuring out who they are and how they are supposed to relate to others.

Of course you should correct their behavior, but you also have to pick your battles and consider the context. When a child is taken out of her comfort zone and is capable of disrupting 8 hours for herself, you, and all of the passengers, you need to let her be a kid, give in a bit. She doesn't need to be disciplined. She needs distractions and interactions that can keep her happy and comfortable (so that everyone else can be happy and comfortable).

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

You can teach 1 year olds a lot if you want. Children know when they can play their parents and when they can't. Anyway, please continue with airline saga. :)

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

I've had a very good experience with Emirates travelling with my nephew. Qatar is so so. I think Emirates does give all the goodies to kids to keep them busy throughout the flight. You can ask for more.
I think best is to make small bags with new toys and things other posters mentioned and give one every few hours. Does she enjoy cartoons or something?

Re: Qatar Airways and infants.....

nadz, what we do when we fly is that we buy some new toys, new coloring books, new stickers. We don't give them or show them to her before hand. Once we're on the plane we tell her we have some new surprises and treats for her and that if she is good for the take off, we will give them to her. It motivates her to behave during boarding and sitting around and when we do bust out the new toys, she's a happy little kid.
