What is the root of Qahba which make it equal to Faahisha. Is this a new word, as its not used for 'Bad-chalan aurat' in Quran.

Basically, Qahba is not a word for prostitution. Its commonly used word in Arabic, which afterwards was linked with this profession . So, lets see if any other poster having knowledge of Arabic come with that common meaning.

Its the latest meaning of the word. Traditionally Qahba was not used in that perceptive. Abu Qahba was not a derogatory title then like Walad ul Qahba today.

When i started reading Novels, i thought its some kind of Tea House (Qahwa Khana) . Later I thought it became Qahba Khana as they provide drugs their and some dance so Disco Club

I read in Shams u Rehman Farooqi’s book ‘Kai Chaand the sar e aasamn’ that “Qahba” actually means “to cough” but is now used for a reference to prostitutes because they used to cough to get the attention of potential customers. Its same story like English word ‘Hooker’.
