Re: Q: what happens when you put a gummy bear in potassium chlorate?
or umm.. erupting in midst of dangerous chemical reaction bear? :D
Re: Q: what happens when you put a gummy bear in potassium chlorate?
no dancing bear ![]()
why did they heat it though? damn i should know i just wrote an exam on this shiz ![]()
Re: Q: what happens when you put a gummy bear in potassium chlorate?
heat is used to make the reaction faster.

Re: Q: what happens when you put a gummy bear in potassium chlorate?
see how toxic it is?
Re: Q: what happens when you put a gummy bear in potassium chlorate?
hmmm i don’t think it’s toxic. potassium chlorate is just a simple chemical. and i guess the high amount of potassium in the gummy bear reacts with it. not sure though.

Re: Q: what happens when you put a gummy bear in potassium chlorate?
Oh i love gummy bears!
Re: Q: what happens when you put a gummy bear in potassium chlorate?
its a reaction between Potassium Chlorate and Sugar.
The sugar burns in the presence of oxygen. The flame is purple from the heating of the potassium.
and no Potassium Chlorate is not just a simple chemical. It reacts vigorously, and in some cases spontaneously ignites or explodes, when mixed with many combustible materials (wiki) e.g. sugar in this case.
Re: Q: what happens when you put a gummy bear in potassium chlorate?
It being a simple chemical has nothing to do with how it reacts. A simple chemical would mean that it doesn't require a mixture of many different types of chemicals to create it.
Re: Q: what happens when you put a gummy bear in potassium chlorate?
arright arright i’ll tell ya how it works once and for all. jeeeeeeez

KClO3- is a great source of O2. the only thing is that it has to be heated up, and now it’s called molten potassium chlorate. the heating releases the oxygen. now oxygen burns things. wood and gummy bears when broken down are made of little molecules of carbohydrates, which the oxygen is burning away aka releasing the energy from the carbs in the little gummy bears. hence the fire show, cuz there’s so much energy in that little sucka, and the O2 is just doing it’s job.

you cant treat KCLO3 (potassium chlorate) like you treat table salt or sugar at home (this was what i mean).
otherwise i dont know what you are trying to say here :s

Re: Q: what happens when you put a gummy bear in potassium chlorate?
