Q1: Correct me if I'm wrong...but you practice law, right?
A: I don't practice law as a bar-qualified lawyer. I graduated with my law degree (J.D.) many years ago.
Q2: If so, what is your area of expertise?
A: During law school, my area of focus was corporate law. I currently work with a financial services firm and provide advisory services relating to regulatory matters.
Q3: What inspired you to pursue this field?
A: I chose to study law because the disciplined thinking process and analysis interested me. That, and it seemed a natural progression after I did my bachelors in Poli. Sci.
Q4: Would you ever consider practicing in Pakistan?
A: I never say never - but practically speaking I don't see myself living in Pakistan and therefore the possibility of practicing there is minimal.
Q5: What genre of movies do you like best? Are you into the creepy kind or horror movies at all?
A: I can't stand the horror/slasher flicks - why would I pay $12 to watch something that gives me nightmares and turns my stomach? I love action movies (the non-comic book movies).
Q6: Favorite author?
A: I read whatever appeals to me, but I like mysteries and two of my favoured authors are Harlan Coben and Linwood Barclay (the latter because he's a Canadian author who I followed while he was a newspaper columnist here in my city).
But none of those books actually stayed with me - the one book which even two years on has resonated was by Dr. James Orbinski - An Imperfect Offering: Humanitarian Action for the 21st Century – it’s a humbling read.
Q7: Favorite food?
A: I like lamb chops and chocolate - just not together. Lamp chops from Salloo's in London and chocolate, well it should be its own food group.
Q8: Favorite place to chill?
A: On the sofa with a blanket to warm me up and my niece cuddled up to me. There's a sense of contentment when life is simplified like that and it just makes me feel like no matter what else is happening around me, all’s right with the world.

Q1: What made you choose law as a profession?
A: See answer to Redvelvet, Q3.
Q2: How did you develop such an extensive urdu vocabulary?
A: I don't know that my Urdu vocabulary is extensive, but what I do know, I learned through conversing with my parents and the elders in the family, watching Pakistani dramas (and old black and white Indian movies), reading the odd Urdu book (yes, I read Razia Butt novels, laugh if you will) and listening to Urdu-speaking zakirs and hadeeth-khans.
Q3: Do you agree with the view that women need men more than men need women?
A: I believe that men and women's need for each other is mutual and equal. Different in reasoning, but as a society (as opposed to on an individual level) neither gender can or will prosper without the other.
Q4: Would you ever represent someone who you knew was guilty? Would you lie/distort facts/use loopholes to help him/her walk free? If you're not a criminal lawyer, then would you do the same in a civil/corporate case?
A: Since I don't practice law in the conventional sense that most understand, it's not an issue for me. But one of the reasons that I made a conscious choice not to practice was because litigation and parsing out someone's guilt or innocence or culpability never appealed to me. I'd like to think that if faced with that situation, even if it's inconvenient, I would speak up for the truth.

Q1: Which members here would you like to send to prison? The people who have asked the question can’t be included among those Sehrysh sends to prison ![]()
A: Would I send anyone from GS to prison? Nah, I couldn’t be bothered.
Just because someone holds a different opinion than my own or has what I may consider to be skewed values, while I vigorously disagree with them and in my mind (okay, in a few instances online) call them narrow-minded and short-sighted, I’m not troubled by that. The multiplicity of viewpoints is actually quite refreshing and is an education on how different people are and how differently they see the world.
Even those individuals who hold what I may deem to be socially unacceptable views, while in my mind I may think of their views contemptuously, I am still willing to engage in a discussion with them and consider their perspective, so long as they are willing to have a discussion. Because at the end, it is possible to agree to disagree. But, for the ones who refuse to have a discussion and just like to hear or read their own opinions while dismissing anyone else’s contributions, I think they live in a prison of their own narrow-mindedness - so no punishment from me is necessary. Their myopic world-view is punishment enough.

Q1: Are you a born and bred Brit?
A: I'm a born and bred Canadian - your neighbour to the north :)
Q2: What kind of a man sparks your interest?
A: To spark my interest, he's got to be willing, able and have the desire to keep up with me in having a conversation about anything under the sun. To keep my interest, well that's a whole other story :)

Q1: Name 4 people you would like to kill on GS..?
A: I'm a Canadian and therefore a pacifist - it's against my national values to kill someone. Although, if they were a victim of a natural disaster....
No, I don't wish anyone any one any harm. I do wish upon some individuals some common sense and open-mindedness, but no physical harm.

Q1: What do you think is your greatest accomplishment so far?
A: My greatest accomplishment? That’s tough - while I’m proud of my academic and professional success - I don’t think that’s an extraordinary accomplishment. Others in a similar situation could have done the same. But a realization I’ve come to recently is that after coming into my own (not merely being seen as someone’s daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt or niece), it’s great to have my thoughts and values and contributions respected and appreciated.
Q2: How many pairs of shoes do you have?
A: In the interest of accuracy, I actually counted and the grand total is 53 pairs (I just cleaned out my shoe closet). I didn’t check out the other closet - but no more than a dozen pairs there. :sid:

Q1: are u real?
A: No, I'm a figment of GS posters' collective imagination.

Q1: Who is the guppy whose comments make you laugh the most?
A: Any guppy/guppan who doesn’t take themselves too seriously and has the ability to laugh at themselves.
Q2: Who is the guppy whose comments make you the most angry?
A: Any guppy or guppan who demonstrates a narrow mindedness in their stance and the inability to engage in constructive conversation or debate.

Q1: How come you often post exactly what I am thinking?
A: Because we’re both morning people with a fondness for dawn :D Or because common sense is still pretty common.
Q2: What kind of law do you practice (or plan to practice)?
A: See answer to Redvelvet, Q1 and #Q2.
Q3: Which law drama do you feel is most realistic? Most entertaining?
A: I'm not a huge TV watcher any more. But one of my favourites for its entertainment value has always been Law & Order: SVU. In terms of realism, real law is boring about 98% of the time. Very few matters actually go to trial and even those that do, you spend more time observing technical issues of civil procedure than the combative examination and cross-examination of witnesses that's shown on TV.

Q1: What is the most rewarding experience you have had, and what made it so?
A: It may sound trite, but being a role model to my nieces and nephews. It's amazing, what their unconditional love does for a person - they love me and look up to me and make it incumbent upon me to be a better person - so it's a responsibility and its reward is seeing them grow into decent, moral and conscientious human beings.
Q2: Who is your superhero of choice, and why?
A: Would it be a bad thing if I said, I never was into Marvel/DC comic superheroes? If I have to choose, Batman - there's a vulnerability about him and an essential human-ness - whereas the other superheroes are superhuman.
But I like real-life superheroes better - the people who are selfless in their giving to the world.
Q3: If you could travel back in time, what advice would you give your sixteen year old self?
A: First of all, one of my favourite questions! To be more open-minded and free-spirited. Sometimes I think I was so busy doing the "right thing" and pleasing other's sense of right and wrong, that I forgot to enjoy myself and to make the most of each moment.
Q4: What is your general philosophy of life?
Live and let live. I live by my own set of values and principles, I am answerable to Allah, my conscience and my family. While, I do not expect others to conform to my values, I do expect them to respect that I have a distinct opinions, and they have every right to expect that I will respect their right to distinct opinions.

Q1: How come you’re so awesome?
A:
Just because
Honestly, because you’re gracious enough to call me awesome when I certainly don’t deserve it.
Q2: When was the last time you had chocolate? ![]()
A: looks at her watch 20 minutes ago :hinna: There goes my diet.
Q3: What do you think of Valentine’s Day?
A: I think it’s a Hallmark holiday, unimportant in the larger scheme of things. But at the same time if my currently unaccounted for Prince Charming decided to gift me with flowers, chocolates or even a corny note, I wouldn’t say no.
Q4: When was the last time you were in love?
A: I’m in love with my family. But with “someone” - then sadly enough, I’ve never let myself fall all the way in love with someone.
Q5: Can you moonwalk, or at least do the Carlton?
A: I got no rhythm at all - so no moonwalk, no Carlton - walking in a straight line is sometimes a challenge.
Q6: Where are you planning your next getaway to?
A: I’ll be going to the beautiful and exotic tri-state area next week - so if that counts as a getaway, that’s my next destination.
Q7: What makes you happy?
A: Finding joy in the small moments in life makes me happy. Being appreciated makes me happy. Being loved unconditionally makes me happy. Being recognized professionally makes me happy. Living a drama-free life makes me happy. Feeling like I’ve met my obligations to Allah makes me happy. Buying a new pair of shoes makes me happy. Discovering new places and new experiences makes me happy. I’m surprisingly easy to please.

Q1: whoz your favourite guppy that you talk to every morning?
A: There are so many, I would be doing any one of them a disservice by mentioning just one name ![]()
Q2: When are you giving me the treat that you owe me ?
A: When the treat waali comes into town, then ![]()
Q3: what is it that makes you so smart and what would you like to share with up and coming lawyers on gs ?
A: I’m not by any means smart - sometimes the bulb up top is pretty dim and I’m the last one to “get it”. I’m rather average in the larger scheme of things.
So, rather than teach others, I’d rather learn from them. As for the up and coming lawyers - as a pseudo-lawyer, I’d tell them the legal profession is varied and for them to seek a career that satisfies them and not just the expectations of others.

Q1: What is the place of GS in your life...?
A: I probably spend way more time on GS than I should - but I see it as an enjoyable diversion and surprisingly, I've met some really nice people on GS - and even a few in person.

Q1: What devil do you think might have stolen King Tut's johnson? Your best calculated guess please.
A: I haven't the foggiest. But best educated guess, someone who suffered from a feeling on inadequacy, maybe.

Re: Q&A (Answers): Zindagi aur Aap. Aaj ka Mehmaan: Sehrysh
CM – Gone fishing are you?
I'll answer your first two questions as a woman who appreciates the finer characteristics of another woman - 'k?
Q1: If you were lesbian, which type of woman would you date?
A: Someone who wears size 6 shoes, has a bigger shoe wardrobe than me and doesn't mind sharing her shoes.
Q2: Also if you were a lesbian would you be a butch one or an effeminate one?
A: I would wear the heels in the relationship.
Q3: If you were forced to marry either Diwana or Amir Pindi who would you marry? And yes you have to absolutely choose one! No backing out missy and no responses with questions to pre-nups, or mehr etc. Everything else is to your liking and standards - any question you have, the answer is your ideal. Now who would you marry Diwana or Amir Pindi?
A: Is hemlock on the menu? But since this question came out of your fertile imagination, let me complete the fanciful scenario for the sake of the readers:
You'd be an honoured guest at my wedding with the TBD groom and right when the priest/minister was asking, “Does anyone have any objections to this marriage, speak now or forever hold your peace,” you'd come rushing to front of the church and yell out to the congregation, "Stop! This marriage cannot take place! The groom-to-be is the father of my unborn child!" Like the good Christian woman my imagination has me to be, I'd graciously back away and let you take my place at the front of the church (non-denominational that recognizes gay marriages) and you would proceed to marry the groom your mind has selected. Added to that, because I demonstrated such selflessness, you and the groom of your choice would ask me to be godparents to your child. So CM, I'll let you tell everyone who you've chosen as the father of your unborn child.
Q4: If you were the last woman on earth and you had the choice of two guppies and two guppans to accompany you in the world (not related to starting the human species) who would they be and why?
A: I just registered my nieces and nephews on GS - so as newly minted guppies and guppans, they would be my choices to accompany me in the world.
Q5: You are left on an Island some where in the Pacific.....and you are all alone. Nobody around....how many times would you shower and shave in a week?
A: Shower every day, shave never (and pray tell where would I find a razor, epilator or hot wax on this island somewhere in the Pacific?)

Q1: What has been the most memorable moment in your life so far?
A: I know the expected answer is probably a personal accomplishment or relationship, and while those were important moments, from an enjoyment perspective, the most memorable moments have had to do with travelling and it's not been a single moment - but the places I've visited. It's truly awesome to see the multiplicity of peoples and places the world has to offer - so my travels stand out in my mind.
Q2: Would you ever leave Canada to live anywhere else in the world? If so, where?
A: I love Canada - I think it is an extraordinary nation to live in amongst the western nations, and it will always be home for me. But, I could live elsewhere. In the past, I had seriously contemplated US (NYC, LA, or Chicago), UK (London) or even the UAE (Dubai). If the right professional or personal opportunity presented itself, I could live elsewhere.
Q3: Your writing skills are awesome. Have you ever thought about writing professionally e.g. articles for a magazine etc?
A: I won't lie, I've thought about it - but there are two things holding me back. First, my skills in writing are more technical than anything else and I am a self-acknowledged verbose writer. So, unless I was writing a textbook, I don't think there's any appeal in my style of writing. While I may wish to be the next great Canadian novelist - I'm pretty sure I don't have the aptitude.
And added to that, I have difficulty with follow-through. I'd have trouble actually sticking with it and finishing any writing project. Maybe, when I'm older with a lot of time on my hands, I might do so - but right now, it's unlikely.
