News Release Date: 29/03/2004**
India have confirmed their status as one of the best batting sides in Test cricket with triple centurion Virender Sehwag jumping to ninth place in the batting ratings, joining Dravid and Tendulkar in the top ten. (As one of our readers pointed out, Sehwag’s triple century was made against a relatively strong bowling attack compared with other triple centuries in Test history.)
Tendulkar’s unbeaten century lifted him back into the top five after a miserable 2003, but Rahul Dravid’s brief hold on top place went when he was dismissed for six in India’s only innings.
Yousuf Youhana climbed 17 points after his outstanding second innings century, but because he was overtaken by both Sehwag and South Africa’s Graeme Smith, he remains in 12th place.
In the bowling, Anil Kumble moved up to within a few points of the top five while further down the table** Irfan Pathan is up 36 places to 58th. **Pakistan’s leading bowlers Shoaib and Saqlain both lost points, and Sami still languishes in 60th place, having not yet made a big impact on the Test scene.
