Personally I wouldnt want to ever put my children in daycare, but if I absolutely had to, I would only put them in daycare if he/she were at an age when they would be able to come home and tell me about their time there, and if ever (God forbid) something bad happened, that they would be able to tell me about it (so at an age when they would be able to communicate that much)
Before that age I would only trust them with someone I knew well and trusted (like my mother or someone close)
If you really must put your child in daycare, do your homework well, talk to other parents, visit different daycares, see what programs they offer and what qualifications their teachers have, so you can make the best decision for your child this way
