Folder Guard!
Re: Putting a password on files
You can just right click and create a new compressed zip folder and throw the file into the folder. All is in windows. Once, you have it compressed, give it a password.
Re: Putting a password on files
my compressed zip thing doesn't work.....says specific folder cannot add to archive.
Re: Putting a password on files

Re: Putting a password on files
and what's wrong with the built-in security feature that WinXP offers? Where you can restrict access to your documents and make them private? Its a bit of an advanced exercise but worth it ... I'd prefer it to installing third party apps etc ....

Re: Putting a password on files
no…my labtop has stuff in it that I don’t want others to see…now that I might have other ppl using it.
Re: Putting a password on files
would u like to tell me how to do it plz???
Re: Putting a password on files
For Windows XP:
- Right-Click on the desired folder
- Properties > Sharing Tab
- Check “make this folder private”
- Click OK
If others need to use your laptop, then simply ask them to login through another account. Opening your folder from their account will give them an error message.
Re: Putting a password on files
what u need, darling pyaree, is a manila envelope. print it out and keep it safe!
Re: Putting a password on files
I don't think "Making it private" will work if her partition is not NTFS.
Same thing goes with "Permission on files and folders". They do not exist unless your partition is NTFS.
How do you check if it is NTFS?
- Double click on My Computer.
- Right click on your hard drive where the files are stored (C: or D: etc) and choose last option "Properties"
- There will be a label "File System" what does it say in front of it? IT should say FAT32 or NTFS
