I thought it was pretty refreshing to hear a world leader get more than a little blunt and speak his mind rather than worry about the political correctness of his statement. I confess that I don’t really understand the references to circumcision within the context of Islam. I knew that circumcision was a religious ceremony in Judaism and also know that it is routine for health not religious reasons in the US.
Forget about the insult for a moment, the following is the message.
"If you are a Christian, you are in danger," Putin charged. "If you decide to become a Muslim, this won't save you either, because they think that traditional Islam is also hostile to their goals."
He is speaking of Radical Islamists and, in my opinion, he is right. These folks are a danger to everyone who is a non-Muslim (they’ve said so repeatedly) and they pose an equal danger to the majority of Muslims who don’t share their radical beliefs. If you are a practitioner of traditional Islam, you should be very afraid that the only Muslim voices the non-Muslim world hear are those of the Radicals. If the lines between Radical Islamists and traditional Islam get blurred, Muslims all over the world are going to unfairly be labeled and categorized with the Radicals. Already, Muslims can be heard to complain (in many cases justifiably) about the incremental deprivation of their civil liberties. If you think things are bad now, wait awhile. It could get a heck of a lot worse.

the challenege is two fold for muslims like myself and the strains are unbelieveable. we are the ones who serve as personal mabassadors every day and every moment to try and build better understanding and build bridges. Sometimes to not so receptive audiences on both sides.
There are radicls and then there are ppl who dont know, or have not looked at other perspectives, on both sides. dealing with ppl like that can be challenging. I dont think anyone who is not in this situation can understand that.
anyways coming back to the topic, I dont have any issue with what he said except for the last part for two reasons
circumcision is a religious ceremony in Islam just like in Judiasm and using that as some basis to make a lame statement does not win him any points with me. I mean if someone said about IRA oh yeah I will baptise them straight to god or something, or about JDL that yeah I will smash their heads on the wailign wall so they dont have to wail anymore..is that not mockery of someone's religious ceremony? He had good points but that lame comment just did nto belong there. I have no issue with lack of political correctness and being blunt, but to be blunt and straight forward is not the same as being insensitive and rude.
Putin is a leader, he should be able to phrase things strongly without giving in to anger and saying things which can be insesitive to what he calls "traditional muslims"

What is wrong if Putimn has talked of redical Islam in the language of politics.
