Push ups - technique and stamina

Those who work out, how do you rank push ups (press ups) as exercise.

Is it important for you or you just do it for warm up ?

I do it casually, for warm up basically. How much beneficail it as mainstream excersice. I reckon it as moderate excercise, do i need to put more effort and increase the count ?

Anyone who does Handstand pushups or one hand push ups ? what is the technique for push ups with one hand ? I can not do this, it is so damn hard :frowning:

Re: Push ups - technique and stamina

i can hardly do 10 now.. so i use them as warmup.. but the way i do it, really gets my heart rate pumping, and i like to place my hands EXACT as far as my shoulders..

pushups for me work my schoulders, triceps and lil bit of chest

i think count wise its not much important, as long as u feel that BURN and expanding of skin.. back in highschool i did 56 pushups once, but it was easy back then, less weight to carry, now i have more weight to carry, and it feels tougher to do . …

i USED to do handstand pushups.. used to struggle at 5, could hardly do 6 and i dont remember finishing the 7rep. .

one hand, i can only do left hand (i’m a lefty so its naturally stronger) and i think i can only do 2 reps… wo bhee jaan ka zorr laga ke . . it looks awesome though :faizy:

Re: Push ups - technique and stamina

^ wow you can do it

I have tried and cant do even one, with single hand even i put body’s force into it. Even though, I dont find handstand push ups so hard, can do 4,5 easily :smooth:

so There is no need to increase the count ? if one can do 20-30 (depending on mood) in one set and 3,4 set casual. :hmmm:

Re: Push ups - technique and stamina

as long as u feel that burning and breaking up of muscles baby .. i feel that within 7-8 .. around 9th i am struggling, and mentally if i know its a 10th, i will have a fit if i do 11th :-)

its a great workout though, it pretty much is working your entire shoulders, hands, forearms, chest, back, (well not that much) and breathing..

Re: Push ups - technique and stamina

In my early days when training taekwondo, we used to do a couple of hundred push ups on our knuckles (did i spell that right?). Basically u work out ur triceps when doing push ups. But if u increse the width between ur hands when doing them, u work out chest muscles aswell. Lessening the space between ur hands targets the triceps more. Doing handstand push ups works out shoulders aswell as triceps.

Re: Push ups - technique and stamina

dont you get bored doing couple of hundred pushups :stuck_out_tongue:

Okey next, how good is chin ups ? I guess my height increased just by doing it regularly … :smooth:

Re: Push ups - technique and stamina

i used to be such a gabroo te tagra jawan.when i used to go out for push ups in the khara, girls would come up on the chaats and cheer me up.those were the days.my speed was so fast that even light and sound were put to shame many a times.my best record [which is still unbeaten and inshAllah will remain as unless ur a murda…:clown] is half pushup/minute. that night no dinner was cooked in any house and kids had to go to bed hungry.to celebrate my achievement i was met by nice red tomatoes and white eggs the other day [my jealous fans ].till this day i’m enjoying those eggs and tomatoes.:yummy:

Re: Push ups - technique and stamina

Well if you dont have weights then you can do push ups.
Not a great exercise but better then nothing.

Chin up is real stuff give you power in lats/shoulders/biceps/fore arms/
You up grade you fitness level with chinups.

If you do free weights your PUSH UP increas with out you trying so don't worry about them at all.

========================================================================
In any exercise if you only able to do 10 reps---that exercise shouldnt be your warm up exercise.

========================================================================

Fastest way to get strong is free weights proper deit.
Plus cross training if you have enough time.

Re: Push ups - technique and stamina

Pushups.. sure fire way of tearing up your rotator :hehe:

Re: Push ups - technique and stamina

knockout_artist it seems like you are lightweight or feather weight artist.

I can understand the need to put free weights if you are skinny type, But I have too much weight :frowning: beyond the limits of BMI

But you are right about chin ups :k:

Afshi - so girls do pushups in their undergarments . hehehe :cb:

( dumb face wala icon, how a guy is supposed to understand girls underwear joke  )

And proud of it.

Re: Push ups - technique and stamina

so how you do one hand/arm push ups ?

I want to learn

Re: Push ups - technique and stamina

I thats not a big deal i need little more strength,
Keep you leg apart from each other unlike 2 haded pushups then try it.

But trust me nothing fancy about it.

Still best way to develp upper body strenght is free weight.
You keep developing strength in upper body and one hand pushups come naturely.

Like as you said you have a heavy body so your best bet is chinups plus dips
like in standing position put you hands on perallel bars ---bent you knews -- when all you body weight is on you hadns-- feet off th ground--- then do up and down.

Best for your shoulders--chest---triceps
Plus you can hold dumble in your ancles too--in order to add weight

Re: Push ups - technique and stamina

Code red - If you are struggling to do a few push ups then fine, use it as a warm up or main exercise

I find them very easy and they get boring when you are able to do loads. I do free weights because thats much better when push ups become easy

The same thing applies to chin ups. If chin ups become easy just do barbell curls and then chin ups as a last exercise

Do bench press for chest and triceps/shoulders and after you are totally exhausted do push ups. You wont be able to do that many so it shouldnt get too boring and you'll find it very handy to build up muscle endurance.

Re: Push ups - technique and stamina

thanks, yes I used to do these dips as you mentioned but not regularly. Yes it is hard, but i can do it.

I am thinking of changing the partern, instead of weight training i would like to add some strenght, tell me some more these strength training workouts, apart from these already mentioned !
