Purpose of Sending Prophets

Re: Purpose of Sending Prophets

Peace Mirch

It has something to do with the du’a of Ibrahim (AS) “the covenant” … and also the holiest cities are all in that general location …

Re: Purpose of Sending Prophets

You already answered your own question that you asked in para 1, in para 3. In spite of prophets who performed miracles, there are people who still dont believe in religion, which means that performing miracles has a very short term effect, probably limited to the direct observer or maybe to that and next generations. People who would come after couple of centuries will start questioning the authenticity of those accounts anyways.

Belief is a choice, and choice is the one that is important. Yes God could have made that belief part of our DNA, but then he already has Angels for that purpose.

Believing in a higher power is the most important. I doubt that God is going to punish you just because you use your left hand to drink water.

Re: Purpose of Sending Prophets

In simple language ... Prophets are Reminders, no more and no less.

We should understand that job of Reminder is to remind people what they already know. That means people know inherently what is right, what is wrong, what they have to believe, and what they need to do ... that is, follow right, shun wrong, believe on reality of their existence, remember and worship Allah, and know that they would be judged one day, and after judgment would get rewarded or punished on their deeds and beliefs, by creator. These are their duties and responsibilities in this world. People follow these duties and responsibilities calling it religion or whatever. Many do not fulfil their duties and responsibilities, and thus become sinners (and thus, rightful candidate for hell).

People keep forgetting what they are suppose to do in this world, hence to assist them, Allah keep sending Prophets (reminders).

Sometime, other than just reminding, prophets do make life easy for people by showing them how to fulfil their duties and responsibilities in this world easily.

Anyhow, Shaitan who is joker in the pack (sent to this world by Allah to make test of humankind fair and more interesting) keep misguiding people by prompting conflicting ideas in people, making their job look more difficult and (by suggestion) make them do excesses in the name of religion, greed, ego, arrogance, self-praise, or whatever. In the end, suggestions of Shaitan when followed by people, they buy their place in hell.

Re: Purpose of Sending Prophets

Great Reply Sa1eem.

Prophets indeed are reminder to our first life of barzakh on the day of alast when we bore witness that Allah is our Lord. But we forget and therefore we are called Insan which comes from nisyan. And nisyan means to forget.

So Quran is called al-zikr, which means a reminder (of what we already know).

We often forget things from past even in this life such as an old friend, event, place etc. which makes us Insan.

Re: Purpose of Sending Prophets

  1. I have a Masters. Many would consider me to be well accomplished and doing very well in the corporate world for somebody still in his 20s. Sorry for boasting.

  2. MANY highly educated scientists will also use the word "sick game" to describe some theories of how a creator apparently controls, monitors and punishes humans.

Re: Purpose of Sending Prophets

Will it be fair then for me to say that your Masters degree is a result of a "sick game" played by your teachers in which they tested you many times on the knowledge given by them?

Re: Purpose of Sending Prophets

No that will not be fair.

Re: Purpose of Sending Prophets

Why? and Why your remarks of "sick game" for God were fair and justified? Why the dual standard? Why did you feel angry (referring to your unedited reply) when I only talked about your teachers? Was respect a factor? If so, would you like to take a step back and think what your words might have caused to people who believe and trust the Wisdom of God?

By the way, thanks for editing the remarks. As you can see I am already relaxed on the fluff and only trying to understand where you are coming from. :)

Re: Purpose of Sending Prophets

It's just not the same thing. My course outline clearly describes how I am going to be judged. A good professor will ensure there is no ambiguity. His existence or control over my grade is also pretty well established and provable.. and it isn't just hearsay or unverifiable stories or written documents with no sight of him actually around. It's just not the same thing buddy, relax on the fluff.

Re: Purpose of Sending Prophets

Sharaabee,

I see it with a different perspective and I believe perspective is the reason of difference between us.

  • In my opinion, it is the same thing.
  • The whole Islam and the fundamental beliefs are clearly outline in Quran and Sunnah and Prophet (saw) has clearly taught us through his life. Notice the difference, teacher is actually Prophet and not God directly. God is the source of knowledge and the prophet came to deliver the knowledge of God. Prophet has ensured that there is no ambiguity in Islam and its teachings.
  • Your teachers are not the actual source of knowledge. They learnt from SOMEONE else and pass on to you that knowledge through some written books/documents. You did not personally meet Einstein or Newton or Carl Marx or Darwin for example. You acknowledged the teaching based on the trust you had on your teacher.
  • It is same when some students don't understand things a teacher say but some very well do. It's not the fault of the teacher but something lacks in the student that he needs to get corrected. It does not mean teacher is giving wrong knowledge.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
